Youngest to ever earn the title of archmage. Adopted into a noble family at a young age due to her potential- brightly luminescent eyes are a sign of strong soul flow, and hers shone more than any untrained mage in recent history. Her first hard light projection happened unconsciously around the age of 6- a comb, to substitute for the one that she'd misplaced. Despite the impressiveness of this act, one which most initiates twice her age usually struggle with for months, the comb itself was useless. Hard light physics make projections incapable of influencing their owner's body- even something as loose as hair.
A year after Vid becomes an archmage, The Sunstone Citadels finalize their plans for the Everlit Road: a vast, interconnected network of sunstone roads which would allow for safe travel between all settlements. Not everybody plans to act in the spirit of cooperation. Several notable settlements collude with each other, planning to cut off construction once their cities in particular are joined. One heir quietly assassinates his father, widely regarded to be an honest man, in order to guarantee participation. Vid, the newly promoted and youngest ever archmage, refuses to accept this subterfuge, despite what she stands to gain, and attempts to act against her lord. She is set to be executed for fabricated charges, and the plan continues.
Vid escapes execution, freeing several other individuals imprisoned for potentially being inconvenient to the conspiracy. This is alarming for the rulers- not out of fear for their return, as the escapee's deaths are all but assured in the frozen wastelands. Rather, the risk comes in the fact that whatever haunt manages to kill an archmage will likely ascend into a horrific monstrosity on the spot. For one eventually will, because no city will taken them in, and even archmages tire. Or so they thought.
Two years pass, yet no reports of nascent crawlers appear. Admittedly, there are more pressing issues for the northern lords. Turns out Vid was right all along- the supposed ramblings of a madwoman were proven true, and the Everlit War began in truth.
