Cegea

About 500 years ago the primordials, having grown jealous of the gods and their followers invaded Cegea in an attempt to conquer it for themselves and eradicate everything the gods have created. Wholly unprepared the races on Cegea got caught completely by surprise and by the time they realized what was happening they were brought close to extinction.

The people of Cegea prayed to their gods for salvation, yet were met with silence. No god answered their cries or prayers. Abandoned, some fell into despair, others accepted their end and others abandoned their gods, in turn, and took their destiny in their own hands.

After the western continent was submerged under water, on the norther peninsula of the central continent, the god Bahamut descended from the skies to the dragonborn. Under his leadership the dragonborn mobilized the remainder of the other races and fought back against the primordials. After their first victory, Tiamat surprisingly joined forces with her hated brother. After years of fighting, it is believed that Bahamut and Tiamat finally destroyed the primordials, bringing the Cataclysm to an end.

On the Eastern continent, the yuan-ti Khalatar Empire tried to evacuate its citizens to get out of the way of the scuffle the gods had with the invaders. When their capitol was razed and their gods silent and absent, they brought their entire might and fury down on the primordials. Yet even that was not enough to stop them, until the first primordial fell to a experimental yuan-ti ritual. With renewed vigor, the empire struck again, mobilizing hundreds of thousands of magic users, repeating the rituals which failed the vast majority of times, but each success was a devastating blow to their fow and they had the manpower to sustain such a conflict. On a fateful day, the primordials suddenly turned to dust, leaving behind a vast desert.

After the event the dragonborn formed an empire and coordinated the rebuilding of the central continent, helping to found the elven cities and human kingdoms in the south, but keeping themselves to their ancestral lands in the northern peninsula. The Khalatar Empire banned religious practices, and moved forward rebuilding their lands, tough they lifted their ban later as people have started migrating and trading between the continents again. Eventually the 2 empires came into conflict in a war that has been raging for over 200 years for a strip of land that conects the peninsula with the eastern continent.

Its been 500 years since the end of the event, the world is barely entering a state of peace and prosperity, but dark clouds are on its horizon.
