Princes of the Stone

"In the embrace of the stone we are born. Stone above us, stone below us, stone beside us. Yet, no stone inside us."
The Princes of the Stone is one of the two major people that inhabit the The Caverns. Throughout history they've always been an industrious people. Scientists and inventors have been highly valued, while more physical jobs like farming and building, though essential, has been viewed as something lesser.

Gender and sexuality

The Princes are an inherently patriarchal people, with men being seen as slightly superior to women in important aspects. Men are better at leadership, better at being logical about strategy and politics, and are generally more intelligent, according to them. Women are in turn more nurturing, and better at taking care of people and the home but also seen as more creative with most famous musicians and artists being women.   They also very much see gender as something binary and static, you're either a man or a woman and that is decided at birth.   Even though the gender roles are pretty strict, homosexuality is widely accepted. Homosexual men have been accepted for a long time, after all, since men are more competent than women, it's understandable to prefer the company of men. Homosexuality among women wasn't as accepted before since women were thought to need men in their lives to take care of them. Nowadays societal norms have become more relaxed and while there is still a stigma about homosexuality among women, it is not completely shunned.   Overall, relationships are seen as something private. Public displays of affection are quite scandalous regardless of the genders involved, and courting is about practical and political reasons as often as it is about love or attraction. To get together because of love is accepted, but it is not seen as a must.
