Wettong

The Wettong languages are spoken primarily in the south of Castordia, but it is not uncommon to find them spoken in cities, and coastal areas. This language family is spoken primarily by Fishfolk and some Orks. In cities, the Wettong languages are generally frowned upon, and thought to be low class, thieving languages. Considering such opinions to be true would be a folly, it is merely a prejudice. Craftspeople and merchants will often study a Wettong dialect related to their craft, notably silk traders will actively pursue the study of the Eeltong linguistic branch (Unless it already happens to be their native tongue).   The languages of the Wettong family have several derivatives. Broadly the most notable of these are Wettong (Common) Eeltong (Spoken by Long folk, thieves guilds, and silk traders) Malakatong (Spoken by Crab people, their relatives, and armourers) GaspSpeech (Considered Arcane)   Other branches of the language exist, although are not as common or widespead. Even Malaktong and Gaspspeech are thought of a novelties outside of their native Doglands. The variants of Malakatong and Gaspspeech, are considered to be mutually intelligible with Common Wettong, although anyone who is not a native speaker or at least fluent and well versed - will not be able to parse their speech. For a speaker of English in our place and time it is analagous to hearing someone speak with a mouthfull of gravel, or in shakespearean english respectively. Similarly, Eeltong for a common wettong speaker is analagous to someone with a lisp using rhyming slang.
