Eel-Men (long folk)
The least trusted of the Doglanders
Of all creatures, places, and races, the Eel men perhaps are worst regarded of them all. Thin dark slimy creatures, known for an affinity towards theft and dark magic, they are often referred to as "The scum of the South".
Despite this their skills in theft are second to their skills in silversmithing, obsidian craft, and of leatherwork. Acknowledge this, and any stranger may find themselves with a lifelong bond, and perhaps a beautifully crafted trinket (at a discount price)
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Those born in their native doglands will take wettong (eel) as their first language, and then others listed depending on local prevalence.
They are proficient in, common, wettong (all varieties), and often orkish. Those in the far north may know both low and high Okanese.
Generally they are adept language learners, but will often have their own regional pidgin or creole in some places.
Culture and cultural heritage
There is a longstanding suspicion of this race, mostly rooted in myth and misunderstanding. They are fine craftspeople if allowed to flourish, but their intelligence finesse allows them to become skilled thieves if pressed by circumstance.
Average technological level
The Eels are skilled at fine crafts, knapping, sliverwork, leatherwork, and jewellery related skills. They have no tradition of masonry, or of engineering, but are able to be well trained in these.
Common Dress code
Among those with high status, silk is worn almost exclusively, and in vibrant colours. In less formal settings, tunics and hosen are common. It is highly unusual and distasteful for fur to be worn.
In combat, leather, sometimes studded, is worn.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
Smoothness is adored by the eel-men, smooth skin, smooth leather, polished gems.
Like many Doglanders they have strong admiration for survivors, and those who struggle.
Major organizations
Most open cities in the west will have a community of eel-men. This will often be underground or tied into crime.
There are however goodwill organisations in large cities that are attempting to improve the public image of the Eel-man, and provide aid to them.
