Templum Catholikos dei Apostasia Olympionic (Universal Temple of the Olympian Apostasy)
The Universal Temple of the Olympian Apostasy, often shortened to its base form of Universal Temple, is the largest Pantheon-based religious organization in the known world, with well over a billion accepted adherents. Its members are referred to as Templars. As the world's oldest and largest continuously functioning international religious institution, it has played a prominent role in the history and development of imperial civilisation. The Temple consists of over a hundred individual cults to individual deities and thousands of attendant temmples across the known world. The Universal Temple is governed by an informal and unequal pairing of two individuals, and elected Pontifex Maximus and appointed Rex Sacrorum. The Temple of Kallipolis, known as the Holy City, is the central governing authority of both Empire and Universal Temple. The administrative body of the Holy City, the Great Curia, has its principal offices in Kallipolis, capital of Cæsaries Nemus, of which the Pontifex Maximus is its highest religious figure.
The core beliefs of the Universal Temple are found in the Athosian Creed. The Universal Temple teaches that it is the single, divine, and apostatic temple founded by Prometheus in his Great Apostasy from Zeus, that its priests are the successors of Prometheus' principles, and that the Rex Sacrorum is the successor to His priesthood, upon whose primacy was conferred by His death. It maintains that it practices the original Apostatic faith taught by Prometheus, preserving the faith infallibly through scripture and sacred tradition as authentically interpreted through the magisterium of the Universal Temple. Within the UT, a myriad of institutes such as mendicant orders, enclosed monastic orders and military orders reflect a variety of theological and spiritual emphases in the Temple.
The Apostatic Temple's social teaching emphasizes voluntary support for the sick, the poor, and the afflicted through the corporeal and spiritual works of mercy. Templars operate thousands of primary and secondary schools, hospitals, and orphanages around the world, and is the largest non-government provider of education and health care in the world. Among its other social services are numerous charitable and humanitarian organizations.
The Universal Temple has profoundly influenced imperial philosophy, culture, art, music and science. Templars live all over the world through missions, diaspora, and conversions. The Universal Temple shared communion with the Olympian Pantheon until the Great Schism just before the Koinon evolution into Empire, disputing in particular the authority of Prometheus after his martyrdom before Zeus. Around the time of Cæsaries Nemus' transition from Empire to the Most Serene Republic, several cults have evolved into monotheistic movements which seek changes to the Pantheon in favor of one deity or another.
Pontifex Maximus / Supreme Bridge-builder: Chief Executive of the Universal Temple, elected to a life term by the Imperial Senate. His responsibilities involve endowing the roles of Episcopus Cardinalis, Cardinalis Presbyter, and Cardinalis Diaconus to the members of his bureaucratic councils. Acts as Head of State for the Universal Temple as an entity separate and distinct from the Empire when operating in foreign nations.
Rex Sacrorum / King of the Sacred: Athena's chosen prophet, tasked with communing directly with the Capitol Trinity. When the Pontifex Maximus chooses his Councillors, it is the role of the Rex Sacrorum to sanctify their individual political Role with a divine Title, often after communing with the deity tied to said office. Unlike the Pontifex Maximus, the King of the Sacred my not leave the established boundaries of Cæsaries Nemus.
Regina Sacrorum / Queen of the Sacred Rites: Originally established to assist the Rex Sacrorum in organizing ceremonies, as Cæsaries Nemus expanded, she became increasingly responsible for the growing participation of women from citizen families in religious duties.
Collegium Pontificum / Fraternity of Bridge-makers (14): Executive council of the Universal Temple. Chosen by the Pontifex Maximus from within the ranks of Cardinalis Presbyteri, and elevated to the Role of Episcopus Cardinalis (Chief Overseer) over a major administrative Office. After this promotion, the Chief Overseer must be anointed by the Rex Sacrorum with his divine Role as Pontifex (Bridge-maker).
- Dicasterium Camerarius / Department of the Chamberlain; Pontifex in charge of managing the Pontifex Maximus's household. In charge of the Supreme Bridge-builder's personal budget through the use of Prometheus' Pence.
- Dicasterium Cancellarius / Department of the Chancellor; acting prime minister of the Concilium Pontifices. Handles the day-to-day operation of the Universal Temple.
- Dicasterium Dispensator / Department of the Treasurer; office in charge of collecting tithes from temple members, along with the profits of Temple-owned commercial establishments.
- Dicasterium Eleemosynarius / Department of the Almoner; office in charge of budgetary planning for the Universal Temple based upon revenues reported by the Treasury.
- Dicasterium Audiens / Department of the Auditor; office in charge of making sure that the revenues collected by the Dispensator and the expenditures proposed by the Eleemosynarius remain balanced. The Auditor is also the office which requests further information from the Recludere in the event that revenues from individual temples or business interests do not match their budgets.
- Dicasterium Chartophylax / Department of Official Documents; office in charge of producing, storage, and republication of documents produced by all departments, temples, and establishments. Most forms are kept accessible to both the Universal Temple and Cæsaries Nemus government for a period of five years, the length of a Censor's term, and determines which documents should be kept in circulation past that, as seperate from those documents sent on to the temple archives.
- Dicasterium Scriniarius / Department of Archives; office in charge of documents no longer deemed necessary for current operation of the Universal Temple. Each year, all documents from a given year are collected into a single volume. Referred to as the Keeper of the Archives.
- Dicasterium Architecton / Department of Architecture; office dedicated to construction and maintenance of Universal Temple buildings, and the employment of workers towards that end.
- Dicasterium Collocutum / Department of Communications; office tasked with sending both official and unofficial documents between temples and offices, as well as communications with individuals and organizations outside of the Universal Temple.
- Dicasterium Educatio / Department of Education; an office originally tasked with training priests in those roles which they have skills for, or for roles which are currently empty. As the Universal Temple accrued more responsibilities and powers under the empire, they began to take over the education of all citizen and non-citizen children.
- Dicasterium Valetudinarium / Department of Hospitals; like their brother departments of education and retirement, the office of hospitals would handle the care and recuperation of clerical personnel. In an age of increasing public health needs, the Universal Temple has taken over responsibility for employing medical personnel.
- Dicasterium Infirmaribus / Department of Retirement; while the offices of education and hospitals demonstrate a loss leader for the Universal Temple, the office of retirement is where they regain revenue towards the end of a citizen's or resident's life. As the only other department aside from the Dispensator, the office of Infirmabus manage the retirement accounts of all Cæsaries Nemus citizens, and provide for livelihoods in one's elderly years.
- Dicasterium Magnus Magister / Department of the Orders Militant; orignially not even an office worthy of placement in the Council as a Bridge-maker, the formerly Cardinalis Diaconus was tasked with the security of Universal Temple buildings and maintaining order amongst the membership. With the growing links between temple and state, and the first Aquilade, the growing number of Temple personnel tasked with the application of violence lead to the rare elevation of a Deacon Cardinal to the position of Episcopal Cardinal.
- Dicasterium Recludere / Department of Information; although placed at the bottom of most Council organizational charts, the office of the Spymaster is often the closest to the Pontifex Maximus' ear. The task of the Recludere is to collect information deemed too proprietary, high risk, or secretive for the rest of the Council to handle. Whether the office of information works with imperial intelligence (or at cross purposes) is more circumstantial than most would admit.
- Scriba Concilium / Secretary to the Council; while neither a Pontifex, nor even a priest within the Universal Temple, this Temple-owned slave is still included in Council meetings to record the minutes. He is the only non-Cardinal allowed to attend such secretive meetings.

Collegium Diaconus / Fraternity of Servants: while less famous than the Episcopal Council governing the Universal Temple, and without responsibility over a given deity as their brethren in the Archflamines, the Diaconate represents the dedicated agencies that implement specific tasks the Pontifex Maximus assigns to them.
- Cardinalis Diaconus Militans / Archdiaconus Legio (6 Chief Servant of a military order, ostensibly tasked with the security of temples across the Empire. As military obligations grew alongside Cæsaries Nemus' borders, the number of fighting age soldiers grew to accomodate a more active command. For organizational purposes, the five Alæ of horse and thirty-one Cohortes of foot soldiers were grouped into Military Orders located in the four Urban Tribes and the capital. While the number of Cohortes attached to each Order waxed and waned, the total never exceeded thirty. The remaining Cohors of the Universal Temple's best foot soldiers was placed under a Cardinalis Diaconus Decanus Militans whose role was to command all Orders and report to the Episcopus Cardinalis in charge of the Department of the Orders Militant, along with physical protection of the Pontifex Maximus. The five Military Orders are named for the heraldic animals used on their shields (Hart, Swan, Pegasus, Unicorn, Gryphon).
- Cardinalis Diaconus Ostiarius / Archidiaconus Ostium (7 Chief Servant of the Six Rods. The officers attached to these Archdeacons are more closely attached to imperial government than any other Cardinals. The Ostiarius Nobilis de Gladius Civitatus (Gentleman Usher of the Sword of State) is attached to the Imperial Household, the Ostiarius Nobilis de Vitis Niger (Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod) is attached to the office of Censor, the Ostiarius Nobilis de Vitis Albus (Gentleman Usher of the White Rod) is attached to the office of Pontifex Maximus, the Ostiarius Nobilis de Vitis Viridis (Gentleman Usher of the Green Rod) is attached to the office of the Consul Ordinarius, the Ostiarius Nobilis de Vitis Coccinus (Gentleman Usher of the Scarlet Rod) is attached to the office of the Consul Suffectus, the Ostiarius Nobilis de Vitis Lividus (Gentleman Usher of the Blue Rod) is attached to the office of the Orator Princeps of the Ekklesia, and the Ostiarius Nobilis de Vitis Purpura (Gentleman Usher of the Purple Rod) is attached to the office of the Rex Sacrorum. These seven Chief Servants share duties with the College of Lictors, but not for the same ceremonial reasons.
- Cardinalis Diacona Monasterion / Archidiacona Abbatissa (7 Chief Servants of the Hestial Order. The only Cardinals who are female, they were elevated almost as a unified body to the Cardinalate during the second imperial dynasty from their formerly ceremonial role of Hestia's virgin priestesses. While the male priesthood had busied themselves with the administration of the Universal Temple, certain niche tasks remained too generalized even for basic Sacerdotes. At this key moment, both the Regina Sacrorum and Hestia's Chief Priestess approached the Pontifex Maximus with a proposal that some of the more mundane tasks be placed with the Hestial Virgins, a proposal the Chief Bridge-builder eagerly accepted. The eldest Hestial Priestess would be endowed with the Role of Cardinalis Diacona Monasterion Præposita (Mother Superior), and each of her subordinate Priestesses the Role of Cardinalis Diacona Monasterion (Prioress). While each of the seven were provided the Title of Archidiacona Abbatissa (Abbess Archdeacon), and provided an office equal to her rank, the membership would be less tied to any given sorority when compared to the Priests of their male brethren. The Parthena Hestialis Calix (Maidens of the Chalice) handle provisioning the public dole and other charities, the Parthena Hestialis Cera (Maidens of the Tablet) record official documents, the Parthena Hestialis Calamus (Maidens of the Quill) acted as tutors and teachers, the Parthena Hestialis Virga (Maidens of the Rod) staffed medical facilities across the Empire, the Parthena Hestialis Cubile (Maidens of Repose) cared for the aged, and the Parthena Hestialis Baculum (Maidens of the Staff) who performed assorted tasks not attached to the others, often wandering long distances in the process. As Virgo Hestialis Maxima (Chief Hestial Virgin), the Mother Superior would administer the six branches of her Diaconate, but even she answers to the Pontifex Maximus and Regina Sacrorum, though not the Rex Sacrorum. While in earlier times Hestial Virgins served from age six to thirty-six, after which they could retire and marry, the Abbatissas now serve their entire life within the sisterhood.
- Cardinalis Diaconus Sodalitas / Archidiaconus Minores (13 Chief Servants of independent Fellowships. Each Fellowship is formed of previously autonomous priesthoods during the early Empire, and whose jurisdictions are more specific than most Cardinales. The Sodalitas Auguro (Brotherhood of Diviners) interpret the will of the gods via viewing the natural world and how it behaves. The Sodalitas Haruspex (Brotherhood of Soothsayers) interpret the will of the gods via the autopsy of select divine animals. The Sodalitas Epulo (Brotherhood of Feasters) coordinate the feast schedule of any given year. The Sodalitas Fetialis (Brotherhood of Compacts) work with imperial government to formulate both foreign and domestic treaties. The Sodalitas Arvalis (Brotherhood of the Fields) manages the arable land tied directly Universal Temple monasteries. The Sodalitas Faciundus Sacrum (Brotherhood of Sacred Efforts) handle sanctifying Temple grounds, as well as the maintenance of equipment. The Sodalitas Collinus Salio (Brotherhood of Hill-leapers) divine the desires of the Pantheon in the event of conflict. The Sodalitas Vulpes (Brotherhood of the Fox), referred to as the Fratres Griseo (Grey Friars), focus on studying the philosophy of Prometheus, the Martyred God. The Sodalitas Speculatio (Brotherhood of Observers) interpret the will of the gods by viewing the movement of stars and constellations, operating observatories across the Empire. The Sodalitas Inquirere (Brotherhood of the Inquisition) are responsible for tracking populations and individuals who not belong to the Universal Temple. The Sodalitas Confiteor (Brotherhood of Confession) handle the individual payment of tithes by adherents to the Universal Temple. The last Minor Archdeacon with an organized office, that of the Sodalitas Vates (Brotherhood of Mendicants), employ poets and bards to sing the praises and deeds of the Pantheon and Universal Temple. Simultaneously the largest Archdeaconate, while at the same time the least organized office, is that of the Sodalitas Sacerdos (Brotherhood of Clerics), meant to keep records on all priests and their tasks within the Universal Temple.
