Fukuro (5e Race)

This race or class option was only available during the Halloween 2019 event.
Toshiro waded through the underbrush, tense with anticipation. He'd been preparing for this night's activities for two days, and still felt unready. Straw and other nesting detritus stuck to his talons as he waded out of the cave and into the dark of the forest. The mother Luna was out in strength, and her power called to him. A light and dry summer breze began to light the incense and chant the incantation of old.   The life of the Fukuro is spent on the ground, far from the skies where their ancestors dwell. There exists no great empire for the Fukuro to call home, instead they spend their lives carving out existences amongst the larger races villages, or forming tight-knit communities deep within ancient forests. Some Fukuro use their great wisdom and set out on pilgrimages for knowledge, while other use their hunting prowess and pursue great bounties and trophies.

Feathered and Wise

Averaging a height of 3-4 feet tall, Fukuro are often ignored or unnoticed in their day to day lives. Their smaller stature and oft quiet demeanor make the Fukuro inoffensive or otherwise unimportant to most.
The Fukuro don't mind this lack of distinction, as this detachment from the day-to-day perils of society allows them to focus on their own improvement and growth. Their hollow bones make the Fukuro rather light-weigh despite any changes in physical build they may have due to lifestyle. They tend to average 40-50 pounds. Fukuro color varies depending on their ancestry. This can range from snowy white to various forest camouflage patterns. They take great care to keep clean, as they believe their cleanliness represents their community. Their eye color nearly always is yellow or orange - however very rarely other colors are seen.

Fukuro Names

When a Fukuro is hatched, they are given a nest-name, known only to members of their flock. They then enter into schooling and training with the other chicks of the flock. On the tenth anniversary of their lunar phase, they are taken to the elders of the clan and given training in the lore and history of their people. After a year of training, the individual is allowed to pick a name. This name is what they will be known by to the outside world, members of the other flocks, and new aquaintances. The Fukuro keep their nest-names well guarded. The names are chosen based on history or personal taste, and their surnames are based on the lunar phase of their birth.   Surnames:   New Moon: Darkmoon, Darksky, Blackeye, Hollowheart
Crescent Moon: Sliverside, Whitecresent, Bowlight
Gibbous Moon: Lighteye, Quartershines, Eggshine
Full Moon: Fullheart, Brighteye, Lunason, Moondottir
