Personal history

Beginning of her Life

Claricia Châtaigne was born in the Woodcutters town to a single mother. Her father left them before she was even born, or her mother left him. She never got a straight answer from her mother.

Talent for Music

At a young age Claricia was taught the art of music. She had a natural talent for the Lyre and her singing voice made the singing birds in the forest jealous. At least that was what her mother always told her when ever she opened her mouth.

Talent for Magic

At the age of twelve Claricia discovered her talent for magic, something that is rare. When she showed her mother her other gift, her mother was shocked. Telling her that this was her father's fault. At that time she didn't know what her mother meant.

Mother's death

Claricia's mother died when she was sixteen. After the cremation ceremony she left Woodcutters town, the only place she knew to source for her father. She found him in Nightshade Crossing. Her father took her in without asking many questions. When she showed him her gift for magic he taught her how to use it properly.

First Performance

Claricia wanted to sing, so she went to the local Tavernes, the owner sent her away at first. But after a few times he allowed her one song. Her father was sitting in the audience, after her first song the audience kept asking for more songs. So she kept on singing. After the performance, her father told her that he could feel magic. She was not sure what he meant. At home, he asked her to sing again, and she did. Her father told her again that he could feel magic coming from her, as she sings. He gave her a choker that will restrain the magic in her voice.

Husband

Claricia met her husband Remon Donnet in the Tavern, he came to listen to her singing every night. Before he gathered his courage, and introduced himself to her. They hit off right away, and they got married in the White Swan chapel two months after their meeting. Before they got married she told him about her magic abilities, but he didn't mind. After the wedding they moved to Appletree village where she preformed in the local Tavern Apple Cider.

Legende

With her magical gift came another gift as well, the gift of foresight. This gift came only when she was singing or played on her Lyre. Quickly people gathered around the Apple Cider to hear the newest prediction. Only not everybody was happy with what Claricia said. In her last prediction she for saw the death of the king.
The moon blackens and the sun is far away, the king on his golden throne falls in a deep sleep never to be woken again. Mourning in the land, mourning in the queen's bed. The end of a peaceful era, entering an era of unrest.
— Claricia Donnet- Châtaigne
A week later the king of Albor died and Claricia was blamed for his death. But when the soldiers came looking for her, she was not at home or anywhere else in the village. The search for Claricia spread out to the rest of the land, but again she was nowhere to be found. Now she is The Lost Singer. And even her husband was nowhere to be found. It is believed that he went with Claricia. Or that he never existed at all and that she created him with her magic.   The lyre is from Clker-Free-Vector-Images https://pixabay.com/nl/users/clker-free-vector-images-3736/

Nice read and also like the dividers you used for the layout. Really fits well for the article. The mystery about the husband and if he is actually really is also quite interesting.   One note though for : "The end of a peaceful area, entering an area of unrest." should area be 'era' here?

Nice article and lovely dividers :D   I have a few questions: What kind of magic was she doing while singing? Influencing people's feelings? And why did her father feel the need to restrain her magic while she was singing? Was there any danger?

Interesting story. I'd like to know more about the magic, or how it's viewed in that society. Making the birds jealous is a great compliment.

I love the concept! Like others here, I have questions. Why was it necessary to restrain her magic? Why did she not ask her father the questions she had asked her mother? Why is magic a bad thing here? And why did she get blamed for the King's death, when she was known as a speaker of prophecy? If you're limited by the word count I get it, but I hope to see more articles on these things in the future. Beautifully presented, too. :)

Excellent work, Nathalia! I love the mystery at the end of it—and the idea of art/artists getting blamed for things really resonates. I was also really intrigued by the mother and how she kept things from our hero in the beginning.

Very interesting legend figure. The magic, except for prophesy, is never really described. Is that intentional or is it just sort of generic magic (thinking along the lines of D&D cantrips, Dancing lights, minor illusion, etc.) How powerful was her magic that it needed to be restrained?

Feel free to stop by some of my WorldEmber articles if you want. My favorites are The Book of the Unquiet Dead, Outpost of the Moons, and The Emerald Hills. Feedback is always appreciated.

Ooo, several mysteries in this article. I like that people are even suspicious if her husband is real or not.   I love your dividers too! :)

At least that was what her mother always told her whenever she opened her mouth.
That one made my day. XD I love the article and how you presented a short story of the character's entire life.   Considering the gift of magic. If her father taught her how to control it, why was it a bad thing for the power to seep out with her voice? What was the choker for, then?
