The King's Parliament
Construction of the King's Parliament began in 424 AnCog, after the Freedom Riots ended and a compromise, which greatly favored the existing government over the people, was reached. Compleated in 427 AnCog, it became a place of public meetings and announcements. The annual meeting of the ruling monarch and the Council of States is held at the parliament. It is one of the few government functions that regular citizens are allowed to attend, although they are only allowed to watch the proceedings not participate in them. It is important to note that the King's Parliament does not host a democratically elected Parliament, nor do the non-elected representatives of the people meet there very regularly. It is more a place where people can gather and hear news of what the government has done and inform the government of their needs.
Purpose / Function
The King's Parliament was built to allow the citizens of Isendree to be more involved and have more access to the governing of their nation. While there has been some improvement in this area since the Freedom Riots, few of the organizers' actual goals have been achieved. Many members of the Royal family's secretary and representatives to the people work in the Parliament helping to inform the family of the needs of the people. This is also where political parties meet and organize, as it is accessible to most Isendreens.
Architecture
The parliament is a large stone building that in some aspects resembles a church or cathedral. It has a large clock and bell tower at the entrance and two enormous wooden doors with the events of the Freedom Riots carved into them. All of the windows on the front of the building are made of stained glass. Leading up the parliament is a stone walkway and small courtyard. The stones at the center of the courtyard bear the names of the men and women who died during the Freedom Riots.
