The Fedelm Forest
The Fedelm Forest sits on the northwest border of Kiara, the capital of Isendree. Although the forest's edge is separated from the castle by several farms, both the forest and the city creep closer together as they grow.
Little is known about the forest as many of the Kiarans believe that the forest is bad luck and refuse to discuss or acknowledge it. Outside of the city, there are many rumors started by hunters and villagers who have wandered into the wood. These rumors vary greatly but one stands above them all and has the most versions. These are the stories of the Fedelm, a group of satyrs that are the main inhabitants of the forest. This is where the forest gets its name, although inside the city it is known as The Great Wood.
While the villages that border the wood do know of the Fedelm and a bit about them, they rarely interact with them, and in the majority of the stories about them, the Fedelm are portrayed as hostile and violent. When questioned the storytellers often site the numerous disappearances of villagers into the forest. Because of this, few of the forest's resources have been harvested, and all of the attempts to explore and map out the forest have ended in the disappearance of the explorers. In many villages, it is forbidden to enter the forest except to hunt and only in dire need. Some have gone beyond this and refuse entrance into the forest without permission from the town council, which in many cases causes greater disparity in the wealth of the villagers. This exacerbates the need to hunt in the forest, which is typically refused to everyone but the greatest hunters, many of whom sell their catches for exorbitant prices.
