Work at the Paper Mill

Those who believe they have the talent for make-believe, will go to the paper mill to work because that is the life of a storyteller, choosing this career is one that faces many challenges, the creative thought needed for storytelling, finding people who want to hear your fantasy, but the need for paper is what drives them to the paper mills as their main source of employment.
The citizens of Draco do not have a great need for paper, and so its production is not plentiful, because why harvest trees and encroach on the old wood of the woods surrounding their towns when chalk and slate is so plentiful. Chalk is what is used in schools and in households to leave notes.
There are a few who want to buy paper for letters, so paper has a slight demand, but most of their livelihood comes from the Dragons who dictate scientific books like dictionaries, and book about how to build things. The Dragons are a wealth of knowledge, and so riders will transcribe a Scientific Journals such as these as the riders are nearing retirement as a last gift to the people before he moves back into his family unit to live with his loved one in the last years of his life. This makes sure that the authors working the paper mills will never starve as the dragons will always bail them out by buying paper in coin. If business from town is slow.

There is a library adjoining the mill, the rental of their books is how most of their money for food comes to the mill.
One can also rent the author themselves to tell their tales, as some families like the energy it brings during daytime when work is done and it is time to calm down for the night.
They pay for this serves with room and board, and most others like this because it gives them a break from the mill and also makes sure their story is told with the proper inflection, and appropriate suspense. It also helps the mill as there is one less mouth to feed for about a week or so as the story is told.

Career Progression

After you leave school to be a author of creative fiction you are put to work to run the mill making paper of a full day of 6 hours. Your work load is then decreased by an hour a day for each book that you add to the library, when that book is rented you get a full 2 days off. That week so you have a 3 day weekend to go and visit family, if you are able to create a popular works, you can just work an hour a day to make the sheet of paper you will be using. And spend the rest of the day writing.

Payment & Reimbursement

Each day you work the mills you are paid in one piece of paper, and 3 communal meals. Unlike the rich fare of the Glassblowers guild, the Writers Guild of the paper mills has a more basic fair of food as they are bought with the mills profits.

Other Benefits

Writers will put their first draft on the slate of their rooms in chalk and the other writers of the mill will come and read and give suggestions. This support and camaraderie with others who share your passion is why having an industries that brings all the creative together is so rewarding as a life path.
