The Beacon

Once the proud center of the Republic of Irrast, the Beacon housed the emissaries of all seven isles of Irrast.  Its streets were filled with life and noise, from traders to guides, guards to nobles.  The construction itself was impressive - a massive city that rose out of the ocean.  Magic caused the entire city to float inches above the water, a feat that has yet to be replicated to this day.  The immense forces required for this caused the Beacon to be tethered to a specific locale, magically "clamped" to five magical pylons that rose out of the water surrounding the city.   After its destruction by the seven human ships, the beacon lays in waste in the Great Unknown.  Though it was tethered further in, during the Battle of the Beacon its tethers were destroyed and the entire city flung out to sea before it sank.   The golden and marble buildings now lay dormant, copper pipework bronzing in the treacherous waters.  A community of Sahuagin have taken up residence in the inner city, with the outer buildings housing both natural sea life and other evil creatures.  This fact is unknown to the outside world, with no explorer ever successfully finding the sunk capitol of the Golden Age.

Purpose / Function

The Beacon was the home to the Republic of Irrast government, with each island sending two emissaries to represent them on the Irrast Conclave.  This necessitated places to stay, which necessitated workers, which led to inns, food, trade, and eventually a bustling capitol city.

Architecture

Many of the buildings were built of brilliantly white marble, with some wooden and stone trim.  The copper roofs reflected sunlight, coining the name of the Beacon, as from afar it looked like a flash of pure light when the sun hit right.  Tightly fit cobblestones made up the streets, with copper and iron sewers providing for the entire city.  Much of the artificial area was planted with trees and other flora and fauna, to make the city feel like a living part of the world.

History

Legend tells that the city was raised in five days, by Olbrich architects and Rehna visionaries.  This is likely untrue, but it is fact that the city seemingly appeared from nowhere at the end of the Age of Reclamation.  It started as an independent settlement, but slowly encompassed more and more of the surrounding isles into the new republic.

Tourism

In its years above the surface, the city received crowds of peoples who wished to visit the bastion of peace and beauty.  Now it lays dormant and none that have sought it out have ever returned.
