Void Wraith Species in Cairne | World Anvil

Void Wraith

"There is great evil in the world, and it requires no invitation."

There is little else in the realm of Cairne that can measure up to the vile and wicked evil that is the Void Wraith. A culmination of pure hate and desire for violence coalesced to form a creature so wracked with malice that its very presence can kill. It seeks only to harm any and every living thing that gets within its range of perception.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Void Wraith reveals itself as a huge humanoid creature wrapped in layers of shadows that drift around it, undulating and warping the very air around it. The area around the creature reeks of a nauseating mixture of sulfur, ozone, and old decay. It hovers above the ground, moving in unnaturally quick and jerking motions, its head constantly whipping around to and fro, looking for its next victim. From its glowing eyes that seethe hate to the spindly, bone-like fingers that curl and uncurl hungrily in vile anticipation, this is the epitome of evil made manifest.

Ecology and Habitats

The Void Wraith is extremely solitary and driven in purpose. Unlike many undead, it has no desire to consume the living for any purpose, and seems to be a manifestation of some form of entropic empathy that comes from within the Void. They are extremely rare and the emergence of one is one of the few events that will unite the races of Cairne.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Void Wraith exists solely to wreak death and harm upon the living, and can detect fear in a radius of 60', utilizing this ability to find and tear the life away from as many victims as possible. They are unrelenting and single minded in purpose.
  • Sacrificial Syndrome Any that manage to escape the attack of a Dread Wraith but sustain damage during the altercation have a 10% chance to be marked by the encounter. This affectation creates a compulsive psychological deviation in the creature to find other victims for the creature and sacrifice them to it in order to appease the Void Wraith's anger. The Void Wraith recognizes these marked ones, and regards them as expendable means to an end. It will slay the marked creature if it crosses the Wraith in any way without a second thought.
