Sun and Moon Myth
Long ago, when Ventar, Supreme God of All visited Collena, he sat on his throne atop Sil Ventarsan, the tallest mountain in the world. He looked out at all the Regalti have done, and he was not pleased. He blamed the lesser gods for being unable to guide the Regalti, then left. He contemplated destroying the universe...
The twins goddesses of the sun and moon, Vala and Sevi, were not happy with the decision. They knew why the Regalti have been led astray, for it was the other gods own doing. The other gods were busy demanding too much from their worshippers and did little of what Ventar would say is 'guiding' or 'creating'.
Fevala took as many Regalti to heaven as she could, then hid several Regalti on Sevi's body, as well as every animal on Collena. Then the two set out to find Ventar. When it was found out what the twins were up to, the other gods were angry. The absence of the sun and moon cast a dark shadow over the world, and it fed into the rage of the other gods. Their fury was felt across the void, utterly destroying the world and sending the universe out of order.
When Fevala and Sevi found Ventar, He was on a throne of another world, looking out, and was again displeased. He decided he should destroy the entire universe and start over.
When the Fifth Universe was born, Ventar sensed that a remainder of the fourth one was with Sevi. Ventar demanded they destroy it. Vala pleaded with her parent to recondier. Then Sevi removed the Regalti from her body and presented them before Ventar. The Regalti immediately saw Ventar and his radiant being. They immediately fell to the ground and bowed before him, begging him to spare them.
Ventar was moved by the Regalti. He admitted that the reason he was displeased with the Regalti was a petty one. But the damage was already done. The Universe was destroyed and remade. The world was completely changed from what it was. When Ventar returned to Collena, the other lesser gods fled the world to find new followers and new worshippers across the skies.
Ventar then cursed all of his children, preventing them from ever visiting this world again. This greatly saddened Fevala and Sevi and the few other gods that didn't take part in Collena's destruction, but they were allowed to be close to the world at the very least but could never touch it again.
When Fevala and Sevi returned to the skies above Collena, the Fifth Age began. Regalti were placed back on the world to start over. Fevala and Sevi swore to protect the world from the other gods, invaders from the void, and anyone else that would threaten it, even if that meant other gods, or Ventar himself. Ventar visited Collena more often after this, but there is always a tension in the skies now when he visits
Historical Basis
The Regalti civilization has undergone several cycles of destruction and rebirth throughout history. The latest cycle of destruction was caused by a supervolcanic eruption around 4000 years ago, or, at least that's what the evidence shows. The eruption happened on the opposite side of the world from where this myth came from, so it was not strictly associated with an Earth or Fire god, though similar myths are the closer to the site of the eruption you get.
This Eruption was so powerful it blocked light from the Star Fevaultar and the Moon Sephar for nearly three months. Not all light was blocked, but enough to throw the planets entire weather cycle off balance, kill crops, and cause Regalti society to collapse.
In this previous civilization, Space Travel was possible, and Regalti had barely settled Sephar by this time, but it was beieved to be only several thousand people and they relied on Collena for technology and supplies. It was also believed that the volcanic eruption caused a nuclear war between several national super powers, and several of these missiles were also aimed at Sephar. the resulting explosions and EMP blasts destroyed most of the world's technology.
We know after this that a cult spread that actively sought out and destroyed technology, melting it down and burying it, which sent Regalti civilization back into the stone age. The technology wasn't completely destroyed, nor were the largest structures, but over the thousands of years, most traces of this early civilization has disappeared.
By Examining the past, one can see where the basis for the myth came from. It was known that Regalti had started settling Sephar by this time, so this was associated with Sevi taking them from Collena. The Disappearance of Vala and Sevi is correlated with the volcanic eruption, and the subsequent nuclear war was the destruction the gods brought on the world.
We also know that the Star which Ventar is based, crossed over a specific point on Sil Ventarsan (The throne of the world) every few centuries in the past (due to the movement of the stars over thousands of years, it actually happens once a year now). The appearance of the star Ventar at his throne happened at the same time as the volcanic eruption.
The various planets and bodies in the Delvi star system are named after the Gods. This myth was the basis for the gods leaving the planet, but none of them were ever close to Collena obviously, except the moon Sephar, which is a representation of the goddess Sevi.
What really happened (MAJOR PLOT SPOILERS)
What actually happened was the Sseterri Race being sent by the Galactic Council to wipe out the Regalti civilization before it could become a threat. They did something called the 'Erasure Protocol', which completely cleaned the world of any technology and trace of civilization. The Sseterri were supposed to exterminate the Regalti, but their experiments found an interesting anomaly, so they were placed back on Collena with instructions to destroy technology and kill those that try, at least until the Sseterri can figure out what to do with the Regalti.
Author's Notes and Earth inspirations
The cycles of the world's destruction are somewhat based on Mesoamerican mythology with a bunch of other stuff thrown in. For now, Vala and Sevi are hardly a comparison to the Mayan hero twins, or the Aztec twins Quetzalcoatl and Xolotl, but I am shooting for something similar. Comparisons may become more apparent as you read more Fevarik myths and legend articles in this world (if I ever get around to writing them...)
The concept of a supreme god over lesser gods doesn't really seem to happen that often in actual earth mythology aside from Hinduism. It is everywhere in our fantasy novels, especially Tolkien.
The concept of cyclical destruction is pretty common in science fiction novels as well. This will heavily play into worldbuilding later on as the separation of Collena and Sephar Regalti should have some interesting implications...
Author's Note
No fancy editing or images, just a thousand or so words of solid writing and mythbuilding.
Was for a Prompt originally, but really is just a bunch of spitballing for a more in depth future article.
