Prismatic Weaponry

Prismatic Weaponry is wide umbrella term that covers a number ancient weapon types that use a magically powered crystal to achieve a damaging effect. These weapons are exceedingly rare, and are of great interest to the Legion of Progress. The Legion wishes to recreate whatever magic or science was used to create them with the aim of creating more. Found in ancient ruins, the Legion have categorised the weapons into a number of types based upon the weapon design and the colour of the crystal used in it's construction.

Utility

Prismatic Weapons have one of a number of different coloured crystals set into them. This creates two usable effects. both of which are usually passphrase locked. The first is emitting light, similar in strength to that of a torch, and the second is forming a prismatic blade which can deal damage. It would appear that only one effect can be active at a time.

Manufacturing

Prismatic Weapons are found, not made, at least for the moment, although the Legion of Progress has had a measure of success in turning crystals form broken prismatic weapons into heads for arrows and bolts, and sculpting shards into ball ammunition for firearms.
Access & Availability
Prismatic Weapons are exceedingly rare, and the Legion of Progress usually purchase any new examples before anyone else can. This makes them hard to come by except through official Legion channels.
Complexity
While the construction is not initially complex, the magic behind the creation of the damaging prismatic effects is so far eluding study.
Discovery
The first Prismatic Weapons on record were discovered in a tomb in Pelator in PR.2102. It was not until the expansion into the New North that more of these weapons were discovered.
