Lochlings

These creatures have evolved from the elves of Eerrai because of fey influence in the deepest, darkest, and most dangerous part of the great swamp. These elves have dark-colored skin typically black, gray, with brightly colored glowing spots.   Lochlings gain a +2 to wisdom and +1 to dexterity, having a move speed of 30ft and a swim speed of 30ft. These movements are independent of each other. They have Low-Light vision and eat, breath and sleep similar to a human's daily cycle.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Frog like elves who have adapted in order to survive in the swamp.

Biological Traits

Lochlings are amphibious, although most of the Eerrai Lochling settlements are terrestrial, Lochlings can live just as comfortably an aquatic lifestyle. Something to be said about their morphology is that it allows them to somewhat swim through the muddy terrain of their home province. This ability of theirs is quite remarkable due to the fact that they leave no trace when moving through the mud and are effectively invisible while inside of it. However, unlike with normal water, their skin is unable to keep up with the exertion of traveling like this for every long most Lochlings are only able to keep this up for almost half a minute.

Genetics and Reproduction

They give live birth. These sapient creatures seem to reproduce through a traditional means. As much as my research dictates I will not pursue further to save the embarrassment of both myself and my observational subjects. Their gestation period is also very traditional to the more common races of Caerul, even though their morphology has been tainted and changed by fey influences. Generally, a Lochling has a gestation time slightly smaller than their Elven cousins, around 20 months if my timekeeping is correct.

Ecology and Habitats

Dark muddy swamps are where they thrive but they can also thrive in other wet enviroments.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Lochlings are most present in their home territory of Eerrai, there tribes govern them and are spaced out between themselves however it is not improbable that you would see a Lochling outside of Eerrai just unlikely. Their commonality is more akin to Teiflings around the Caerul.

Average Intelligence

Their intelligence isn't measured in the ways that other races typical measure intelligence, Lochlings are masters of their domain typically praising the education of their young but their education isn't traditional. The education of a young Lochling is focused on their environment and how to survive in it. Skills like hunting, fishing, and general survival skills commonly found in the profession of a scout. However, this doesn't mean they are lacking in intelligence, most tribes rely on ambush tactics and guerrilla warfare to defend their borders. While some tribes have found the means over many years to domesticate the fearsome Froghemoth, turning this wild creature, into something that is commonly used as a pack animal used for trading.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

While in the mud they can sense movement as if they had tremor sense. This ability seems to have a maximum range of 30 feet. It seems they are able to detect other creatures within the mud, not due to a traditional tremor sense in which one would see using vibrations traveling through the ground, but through sensing the shifting of the water that permeates the mud. In theory, this ability that is natural to all Lochlings is more akin to a traditional blind sense. This ability should although not directly observed allow Lochlings to use the same ability when submerged in water.
