Caeria

17th Felrenius 1203

Elves, humans, dwarves, mages; standard fantasy fare at first look. But delve a little deeper into the world of Caeria and you’ll find a world rich in lore, where the forces of religion, magic and politics collide on a daily basis. Caeria is a continent inhabited by vastly different cultures and species, a melting pot of beliefs and traditions, from the high elves of Venathwynar to the sea-faring Muir Farrig.   Magic is what shapes Caeria, what created and could destroy it. Its source is still unknown, its power unrivaled except by the gods, and responses to those who can wield it vary from awe and wonder to fear. In the ancient kingdom of Tuatharain, mages are revered for their powers and their connection to the Fair Folk; in many other nations, those under the iron grip of the Mortal Orders, mages are corralled and enslaved, their gifts used to better the profits of the Mortal Orders in any way they can.   While magic shaped Caeria’s landscape, it is religion which defines and changes its people. In a world where the gods are proven to be real, religion is an inescapable force, where belief is less about the existence of a deity than adherence to their teachings. The current crop of gods are relatively new, their ascension having taken place a mere thousand years ago, and their relationship with their followers is often tumultuous; and that is to say nothing of the secrets which the gods themselves may be hiding.
