Following the defeat of Ul-Ahmain, humanity looked to Taylis, as did the rest of the mortal races of Meranthis, who had kept their distance during the Gilded King’s brutal campaign. Above all, Taylis wished for humanity to be free, and for all of Meranthis to decide its own destiny, and so she relinquished the title of High Queen, returning sovereign rule to the various city-states and smaller kingdoms throughout the land. However, not all wish to see her rule ended, as she had proven a fair and just ruler. Understanding that someone would need to rule, Taylis took the title of Queen and named her new sovereignty the “True Kingdom”, vowing to maintain a rule where all could prosper and instill these ideals in her descendants.
Taylis established Bretyngaard as her capital, and the city-states that pledged their loyalty to her were granted the right to establish their own ruling lines, either a Prince or Princess that would serve the will of their people in the court of Bretyngaard. Those nations that returned to their own sovereign rule nevertheless recognized the True Kingdom as a major power, and Taylis pledged never to become an imperialist power as her ancestor’s empire had become in ages past.
When Taylis died, rule then passed to her son, and as each generation passed, the Amarates Dynasty ruled with the some honor and fairness as Taylis had promised they would, ensuring many centuries of peaceful and just rule. Other peoples of Meranthis came to live within the borders of the True Kingdom, and other sovereigns sent emissaries to Bretyngaard, establishing their own embassies within the city. It seemed, at last, that Meranthis had fulfilled the vision the gods had so long ago.
