Star & Dragon Yacht Club Facilities Building

First time visitors to the Star & Dragon Yacht Club are stunned to find that the whole complex is housed within a converted space hangar in one of the larger asteroids in Dalkit 422 IX.

Purpose / Function

Originally built as a massive hangar and construction facility, it was later sold to Star & Dragon Yacht Club which proceeded to renovate the space to include headquarters facilities for the club, dining, hotel, and tourist facilities and activities.

Alterations

The main alterations were to section off the areas for different facilities and provide private club and public areas that complement yet separate.

Architecture

Cut directly into the stone of the asteroid, there is little finishing to the walls of the hangar. Fittings, wiring, and piping for all types of fluids and gases run around seemingly at random. However, much of the charm is that the decor is asteroid and hangar neutral, a decor that would appeal to any spacer.

History

Originally built by TB Dockworks to provide hangaring, manufacturing, and support for small to moderately sized starships. However, TB found after a while that the spread nature of the facilities meant considerable resources were spent moving equipment and personnel around the hangar to support various projects. In addition, actually building and maintaining in free fall became easier as employees became more accustomed to working in zero-g. Star & Dragon Yacht Club bought the old hangar when it became available and has turned it into an attractive and functional facility.

Tourism

Nearly all of the facility is open to tourists and boasts huge spaces for various functions. Most buildings/facilities inside the hangar have large windows, sometimes comprising whole walls, to all the maximum view of the different things going on within and without. A large set of hotel rooms are located with one wall at the clear door edge of the hangar bay allowing clear view of space.
