Erathymus Laser Pistol Legend

There are many myths and legends surrounding the Erathymus Laser Pistol. Some are rather far-fetched, some disturbing, and some are just downright unbelievable. Starting with one of the more recent legends is that Fiddich Glen, before he became Commodore of the Star & Dragon Yacht Club, was involved in the massive rescue of a large cruise ship that had become disabled after a particularly large and highly coordinated pirate attack. If one were to believe the story as told, even the pirates were aware that there was something extremely valuable aboard, although it's doubtful they could have imagined exactly what it was. The legend goes that Fiddich was one of the people who braved going aboard to save some of the passengers. Either in passing, as a gift, or through outright theft, Fiddich acquired the pistol and it's been in the family ever since. If the Glenn's do have it, what's the true story on it's acquisition? To understand why the pistol is revered in legend and myths, one must understand that the pistol is said to have slayed huge Radiation Dragon with only two or three shots. While the dragons exist, one would wonder how it could have been used multiple times against the horrid species. And who and why would someone have been hunting that particular species? And what makes this particular laser pistol so spectacular, if not for it's dragon killing? Well, it also seems that it does not have the weaknesses of a traditional laser. It is not hampered when firing through fog or smoke and it doesn't leave the characteristic laser trace when it is fired into those environmental features. It's said that the laser beam is both horrifyingly powerful and completely invisible during use. What type of laser can fire and not leave a trace in an environment that disperses light?
