Stalaguard
No one is quite sure where the Stalaguard originated from, but they did not evolve from the same core components as humans. Generally accepted among the humans is they evolved from a living asteroid that crashed into Mercury, the Stalaguard, however, believe they birthed from the very core of mercury.
Stalaguard can consume any mineral for sustenance but have also been known to sample human and even Gaicomb cuisine. The Stalaguard communicate using a percussive organ in their heads to create different patterns of vibrations, their language is called Crevin and is very difficult for anyone with vocal cords to learn. They live in nomadic tribes all throughout Mercury, most residing deep within the planet. there are a few major kingdoms, alliances between several tribes, The prosperous Red-Stone Merchants, the dangerous Obsidian Order, and the Just Quartz army. Stalaguard often alter their appearance using geomancy to identify their allegiances. Some, however, do not hold major allegiances and live in exile among the Gians, usually working for little to no payment in the mines or smelting plants, there is usually one small Stalaguard neighborhood in the larger mercurial cities. The Stalaguard view of humanity is typically low at best for a host of reasons. the Stalaguard view the giecomb as vermin, far beneath them and hardly worth considering.
The stalaguard are largely misunderstood and unknown. As Mercury is explored, more shall be discovered about their roles in public, private, and what they choose to do as employment!
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Stalagard are large, bipedal, shifting rock and sediment elementals. Unable to be healed with normal means, they thrive on inborn earth magic to repair and interact with surroundings.
Genetics and Reproduction
Stalagard reproduction is not fully understood, as communication is difficult, and their homes are often within solid rock. Observation is needed.
Ecology and Habitats
Stalagard can live anywhere that is primarily sediment and rock based, from the blasting heat of Mercury to the frozen waste of Mars.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Stalagard need to sleep, but aside from that their food source is largely willpower based, pulling earth and appropriate elements from the ground to repair their form.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
A Stalagard can walk through pure earth as easily as others traverse water, they can feed on earth as we would breathe air, and can heal by in-taking their common element.
Common Employment:
Stalagard tend to work on the boundaries of EUS settlements or mines. Either trading with miners, helping them, or even attacking them. It depends on the political allegiances of the Stalagard at hand, whether it will view other species as hostile or friends. The Stalagard seem to have a thing for Constructs however, being much more likely to join a group where one is present. It is possible that due to the material Constructs are made from, they are mistaken for a similar species, as Stalagard are familiar with all things found in the earth, and metal creatures are much more dependable than fleshlings.
Roleplaying a Stalagard:
A Stalagard has great difficulty speaking common or other species languages. For this reason the few who are interacting with other species tend to speak slowly, haltingly, and concisely, never using more words than necessary. Although this may make them seem to be less intelligent than most other species, this is thoroughly understood to be an illusion. They are just as sharp as any average human. Due to the stresses between the EUS and SDA, and the encroachment of new races upon Mercury and Mars, the Stalagard are usually wary of other species, very few attempting to work side by side with the encroachments.
Stalagard in Private:
It's relatively unknown how Stalagard spend time in private. As they tend to recede into solid beds of rock or underground, seemingly to join the earth itself, and their responses are short and concise, no-one aside from a Stalagard seems to really know how they spend their time. Possibly counting minerals? Maybe healing? Maybe they're strictly in stasis or a meditative state.
Stalagard in Public:
A Stalagard is an immense biped, ranging from 8 to 10 feet tall. In order to handle most human sized facilities, they tend to reduce their size when going about in public, happy to take a breather to walk the open air and surface of the planet to stretch their limbs and body. Large and intimidating, but methodical and full of purpose, a brash, impetuous Stalagard by human standards would be considered a wise and thoughtful man full of patience.
Origin/Ancestry
The stalagard share a common ancestry with the Sedigan.
