Constructs

Constructs were introduced on earth prior to the Solar War, to increase production while decreasing the prison population. Prisoners who were interned for more than 1 year had their minds torn from them and placed into working class androids, which were then forced to do maintenance work. The First Construct to finish his term was outraged at the fact that their bodies were being discarded instead of preserved, furious, he broke out of the prison and lead many Constructs to start their own lives off planet. They’re still commonly utilized across the inner rim as punishment for convicts, though recently they’ve also begun being used as full body replacements for terminally diseased people.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Ranging from 150-300kg, dependent on what the construct body was intended for, from gardening to construction, all constructs are made from a steel composite, ranging in strength from standard human to above peak-human.

Biological Traits

Constructs are made in several different styles. Series C Constructs were heavy, lumbering machines meant for heavy construction on a line.   Series W-2 were released during the Solar War, as front line combatants programmed with kill switches, so that prisoners could be sent to the front lines to die.   Series S-3, post solar war, was released as an option for those with physical and medical deformities or limitations, as a full body replacement. These constructs look almost identical to a human, have the same general strength and speed levels, with a few minor benefits.

Genetics and Reproduction

Constructs cannot reproduce.

Ecology and Habitats

Constructs can survive anywhere that there is a power source to charge from. When no power source is available, a rest of about 8 hours allows their internal reactor to charge up for a full days labor.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Constructs do not need to eat, sleep, or drink. However, they do require regular daily maintenance. For this reason one of the first things all prisoners or constructs are taught is basic scientific capabilities.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Aside from the Series S, constructs are easily recognizable from their metallic, minimalist skull, often lacking a mouth or teeth, and commonly eyes that glow. The aesthetic choice was one made intentionally, even though as series S constructs proved, they can be made nearly indistinguishable from humans.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Constructs are especially common on Kismet, the prison planet ringed by the Brutalis Array. Post Solar War they can be found in every reach of the solar system.

Average Intelligence

Intelligence d6-d10 Persona d4-d8

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Constructs are by default equipped with night vision and thermal vision.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Constructs follow the standard human nomenclature, though each knows their serial designation. (Species-Sex-Origin-series-MOS) For example, a construct may be a KMSWhvy (K)adru (M)ale (S)aturn (W)ar (Heavyweapons).   As there are common redundancies, a unit number is often attached after the designation, in line of production, such as 008 or 510.

Major Organizations

Constructs are responsible for the majority of solar construction, though the penal system has been limited largely to Kismet, prisoners who have served their sentence banded together almost immediately to become a construction force that spans across the solar system. In fact, the age-old difficulty of ex-cons finding work is essentially gone. Re-integration into society is easy, where there is construction, guards and workers are needed. Every planet tends to have a branch of the Mechanized Construction Battalion, (not to be confused with the navy CB's.) They can build things in about 1/10th the time a normal human construction team would, due to being tireless and precise at all times, often working around a network, sharing information and tasks seamlessly.

Beauty Ideals

Beauty tends to be an emotional thing rather than physical for a Construct, as they can't reproduce. The Ethereal becomes the focus. In most cases, Constructs begin to find beauty in virtue, philosophy, nature, and self-actualization, some turning to religion, others to science.

Gender Ideals

Aside from series S, construct bodies have no inclination of gender. The Government doesn't care about that. The only inclination of sex is in the mind of the Construct and in their Designation.

Average Technological Level

Constructs began around the year 2850 CE, long before the EUS established the NSC calendar. They've persisted from the very end of the modern technological era through the Future era.

Historical Figures

Duo, the second Construct ever produced, is about the only famous one there is. After serving a prison sentence from 2851 to 2990, Duo left expecting his body to be returned from cryogenic freezing, to find the government had been dumping the bodies after a century to cut costs.   Duo established the Mechanized Construction Battalion to give ex-cons a way to reintegrate into society, and brought light to the governments unethical practices. He self-decommissioned in NSC20.

RPG Datasheet

As a Construct, you're immune to biological benefits and penalties, including bleeding, poison, venom, and toxins, death, and life magic. As a Construct, you're too heavy to float, sinking directly to the bottom of any water or liquid. A s a Construct, your Information Domain rank adds directly to your Base Defense. As a Construct, you take double damage from the Lightning Domain, but half damage from the Athletics domain.

Construct Employment:     Constructs can find jobs almost anywhere, depending on how much trust they have built up with the community they work with. They are highly prized in skilled craftwork since the amount of experience they can build dwarfs that of a mortal employee, and they usually take a long term vested interest in the job which they take. Additionally Constructs, often having less costs than most other characters, primarily because of a lack of dependence on sleep, sustenance, and safety, are often working around the clock, hitting 100 hour shifts in their field for low amounts of pay. Constructs are, for obvious reasons, especially prized in long term law enforcement and protection services, and for long term business contracts and oversight. They’re incredibly common on inner and outer rim settlements mining hazardous materials, especially post-solar war.
Common Constructs:   When roleplaying a construct keep in mind that they are people, they have hopes, dreams, and feelings just like any of the other races, and are fully sentient with a soul. Most constructs can’t feel physical pain, but emotional and mental trauma is every bit as effective to them as it is to any other denizen of the world. All constructs have experience with legality and the penal system, or experience with incredible illness or physical debilitation. The only ways to be approved to be placed in a construct body, a type of science which requires multiple people working together, is to either be serving a prison term or to be physically debilitated or diseased to the point of dying. Newer constructs are often overly empathetic with people, as they no longer have an attachment to physical sensation and attempt to live their lives out through those around them, while older constructs are often methodical, purely logical and rational, and pay little attention to the ebb and flow of short term goals and desires of the non-eternal races.
Constructs in Private:     In private, Constructs are usually found working on long term hobbies, examples of which may be exclusive study, increasing their knowledge and wisdom, extreme experimentation and innovation in highly advanced fields such as cybernetics, medicine, or biology, or long-term projects such as growing as reforestation and terra-formation. These hobbies are almost impossible for someone of a regular life span to complete or excel at, but the nearly limitless years and experience a construct can garner allow them to become near sages of multiple fields. If a construct is a social one, in private they’re often found helping their closest friends, even working normal jobs such as bartending, assisted living, and library work. Constructs which are social will often be found near their group, attempting to help them through whatever issues are bothering them at the time. A construct would easily be the medic for a group, or someone who helps train the group in their off time, or possibly help build or perform maintenance on group equipment.

Average Physique

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Usually constructs are varying shades of steel colored, unless they're a series S. Series C constructs often have construction colors of orange, black, and red, while series W often have unit and MOS designations.
Constructs in Public:     In public, most constructs are regarded with skepticism and wariness. Although a construct walking freely around a populated city is almost certainly over with their sentence, the lack of having a body means their prison term was long enough to be punishment for a severe crime. In addition to this, the bodies constructs have been usually made of steel or iron, having high levels of durability and rendering them nearly invulnerable to the average citizens’ assaults, and almost impossible for the average citizen to defend against. For this reason, Constructs are usually left to their own devices, not ignored by any means, but acted carefully and politely toward. Since this is the case, Constructs often are quiet, self-controlled, and impersonal in most ways. They rarely involve themselves in day to day affairs or politics, and often choose to live lives of isolation, focusing on whatever few hobbies, often long-term ones, and stimulate them non-physically. Contrastingly a very socially based individual who turns into a construct may get involved in long term community service projects or construction, giving them ample opportunity to socialize as much as they can with normal humans or other constructs of like mind. Most of these socially based constructs form lasting friendships and business contracts due to their long lives, offering words of wisdom to anyone who desires it, and often choosing lives based off penance for their crimes. Some constructs even undergo modification to their physical form to look more like the race they’re consistently around, allowing them to pass to the unwary eye as a normal person, aside from their legally required prison tattoo which must be easily visible.
