Eire the Perfidious, the Wretched Bystander

Of all the First Ones, there was none as sly and crafty as Eire. His realm was that of trickery and deceit, and he relished in playing all the other First Ones against each other. Eire was not some simple trickster, he was a master of coercion, a King of Falsehoods among peasants. Despite the awesome power of his fellow First Ones, a majority of them were painfully naive and trusting, and were quick to lose their tempers. Eire would whisper into the ear of one that another had wronged them in some minor way, and then would sit back and watch the drama unfold in front of him.   Eire got his satisfaction from manipulating other creatures more powerful than he, bending their will as he so desired. Eire was not by any means a strong being, in fact he was the physically least intimidating of all the First Ones. However, there were few who could match his intellect, Horquath being the only other entity in Brumia who was able to outwit Eire from time to time.   Eire earned his name, the Wretched Bystander during his participation in the Ousting. Not wanting to yet get involved, at the outset of the Prime Nine's revolution, Eire stood aside and let the two factions engage in brutal battle. The landscape was ravaged, casualties were many, and the war came to a stalemate. Eventually, Ylla and the rest of the Prime Nine beseeched Eire to take their side, and bring an end to the rule of the First Ones. Eire agreed, and the upper-hand shifted to the Prime Nine. However, just as they were gaining momentum and had eliminated several of the First Ones, Eire characteristically switched his support, giving the First Ones the advantage. It was then that he became known as the Wretched Bystander.   When the Prime Nine ultimately defeated the First Ones, they had killed all but Eire. The Maiden Mother banished him, dooming the Wretched Betrayer to live cursed forever in a prison of her own design.
