The First Fallen

Invafin, the formidable red one, and her dearest companion Helaria of Tresh flew over the ashen earth. The war had been raging for near 14 years with no end in sight. It was in the soft light of the early morning that Helaria took a bolt to her stomach. It was in that same pale dawn that, distracted by her rider's distress, the great gold claws of Nemslin tore through Invafin's throat. The pair spiralled to the ground, rider and drake bleeding out. They hit the earth, the first casualties of what would be known to history as The Battle of Birth.

Geography

The monstrous pale bones of Invafin lay deep in The Forest of Bones. Her skeleton rests above the earth, with great trees surrounding. The greatest sprouts from her rib cage, the ancient tree grown around the bones. A small alter to all the gods, but most prominently The Lady, stands near Invafin's skull. It is common practice for passing travellers to leave a token of thanks to the dragon. It is not uncommon for pilgrimages to the bones to take place.   Thousands of years after her death the council of Tredan, the kingdom on which the body lays, decided that the bones were becoming too overgrown and sent a team in to clear out the unwanted flora. It was then the bones of Helaria were discovered cradled in the front legs of Invafin. A second alter was created in her honour.
The deaths of Invafin and Helaria occurred during the First Dragon War. Both fought for the coexistence of the humans and dragons. They are honoured as the first death in the major battle of the First Dragon War and are thanked for fighting for the humans. Both have achieved a near deity status and, while not directly prayed to, are often mentioned when giving thanks to the gods.   While the identity of the person who shot Helaria has been lost to history, Invafin's killer Nemslin is well known and often positioned as the great enemy in artwork and stories depicting Invafin. As well, Nemslin had also gained the moniker 'The Golden Betrayer' and is often used as the face of all the oppressor dragons.
