Campaigns in Ashandri
The Ashandrian people are still recovering from what they experienced. This also means that they need help on many levels. From fighting magical monsters to treasure hunting, from solving conflicts to fighting wars, pretty much everything can happen. To make it easier for you as the gamemaster, here are some categories of adventure campaigns that should work particularly well in Ashandri. All of them can also be combined, of course.
The common backstory. The entire group shares a backstory. Maybe they were all serving the same lord when the world ended, or they lived in the same city. They might be looking for lost loved ones, or for a great evil that needs to be stopped - but which is hidden since the rebirth of Ashandri.
Protecting the defenseless. With new and sometimes supernatural dangers emerging in the young world of Ashandri, many people need protection provided by able adventurers. Whether entire villages, holy places or vulnerable individuals, the player characters are classic heroes fighting for the protection of the innocents.
Serving a new lord or lady. As emerging new rulers struggle for power, they hire soldiers, mercenaries and adventurers to assist them. The group might be in for nothing but the money, or they support their lord or lady because of shared ideals. They might even serve the world's champion, for example as members of The Voidguard.
Exploring the world and beyond. Even though it has been four years since the apocalypse, exploration of the new world was not a priority for many people. Most Ashandrians know little beyond their own region, and almost nothing beyond their direct neighbors. Sages and curious explorers might hire the group, or they could go on their own journey to learn more about the world that is now their home.
Treasure hunting. Many hoards and hidden vaults have survived the destruction of the world, but are now hidden or buried. From dragon caves to monster-infested ruins, wizard towers and destroyed temples, wealth and power lies within reach for those who are willing to risk something.
Conflict solvers. In the aftermath of the apocalypse and rebirth of the world, many mistakes were made - sometimes costing innocent lives. Not all of these events have been forgiven, but the heroes might be the ones to break the cycle of violence.
Take what you get. In a world where the political structures are still getting rebuilt, being a criminal is relatively risk-free. Unless you are caught by an angry mob, of course. In any case, a criminal career is absolutely a possible option to go adventuring in Ashandri.
Establishing trade routes. As the world slowly stabilizes, trade becomes more and more important. The heroes might be hired to accompany a caravan, or they are sent to negotiate new trade deals. Such a mission could lead them all the way from Delvaroth to the Bleeding Jungles.
Local war. Instead of being conflict solvers, the characters might actively participate in an upcoming war. When words come to an end, swords are needed to defend your homelands.
A war of worlds. The neighboring world-island of Va’Laeth is ruled by its champion Cirandir. The Tiefling warlock made a pact with The Perishing, and together they seek the total and complete destruction of Ashandri. A campaign revolving around this conflict might begin with smaller encounters of single agents of Va'Laeth. Later, Marisha Veilbreaker or her allies might actively hire the group, possibly even go into open warfare with them at her side.
