The City of Salike

The City of Salike, a place of many wonders and many secrets. A vast, sprawling city spanning the confluence of two rivers, it is arguably the greatest city on the continent of Kessemel: at least that is what most Salikans will tell you.

Demographics

Due to the interbreeding of Gnome, Human and Elf in the last four hundred years, most native Salikans cannot claim any one race their as own. There are exceptions to this in certain families who prefer to keep bloodlines pure for a variety of reasons.

Industry & Trade

Salike's advantageous geographical position make it one of the biggest exporters of grain and meat in the eastern half of the continent. They also do a hefty trade in wool, cloth, clockwork and leather accessories.

Infrastructure

The city is split into three distinct districts by the two rivers which meet within the city. These districts are connected by a series of impressive bridges, built to allow the barges and boats which travel the rivers to pass beneath. The Tech provides the city with plumbing, street lighting, monorails(/skyrails?) and running water, to name a few conveniences.

Assets

Salike is famous for many things, but the most famous of all is their production of complex clockwork machinery and devices. Machinery powered by what is Colloquially known as Daemon batteries. This technology is capable of providing many benefits to the city which give it an advantage over other places. The production of the Daemon tech is a closely guarded secret and there are those who look at Salike with envy.

Tourism

Travellers come to Salike from all over eastern Kessemel to trade, shop, marvel at it's wonders, and immerse themselves in it's rich culture.

Architecture

In garden heights the architecture is given over to grand buildings, with clean classical lines, similar to the Georgian period. Old City is a mix of old and new buildings, as this is where the original city stood. The Commons have less grand residential buildings but some of the industrail buldings are still quite impressive.
