SC Vol. 2 - Homeworktime

Summercamp -
use the time for writing.
(to the tune of Summertime) -

The first stream of homework for this year's summer camp began with this little world-building catchy summer hit.

Let's go on another wonderful journey and discover things that we have never thought about before, but that will give our worlds and goals a powerful boost.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that you achieve the medals - and perhaps more - that you hope for in your promises.
— Good luck, Blue

Small introductory thoughts

At my first summer camp last year, I was full of enthusiasm because I didn't really know what to expect and perhaps got a little carried away by the community's euphoria. After the first prompts were revealed, disillusionment quickly set in, as it initially took me a while to write the appropriate articles for the prompts.

Not to scare any newbies though - I ended up hitting my copper goal and had written 10 near-complete articles.

Although I have two weeks of vacation in July and may have more time on my hands than last year, I will continue to focus on copper this year and join Annie Stein's Camp Chill. If it becomes more, great! If not, that's ok too! Every single article helps expand our worlds. There are also the wild cards, which are really fun and even if you only used those, you would have achieved SC with copper.

Preparation

Like last year, I will prepare the home editions in a more minimalist way and assign appropriate categories and article ideas based on the definition of the weekly topics. Personally, I don't think it's productive to just suck up detailed article ideas from my fingers, which in the end don't fit the prompt. Yes, I know, what doesn't fit will be made right and you can use it very well for the next Worldember, but in the end I would just be annoyed if I put too much time into it now.

Join the Copper party and grab this little extra badge for your home edition.

Dear newcomers,
please don't let my opinion influence you. Even though it's only my second summer camp, I can say that summer camp doesn't really suit me because I'm just too unspontaneous.

But that doesn't have to be the case for you! So here are a few tips on how to master your first summer camp.
— Happy SC, Blue -

Tips

  1. Just have fun and don't put pressure on yourself!
  2. Concentrate on your worlds without being discouraged by others who will be churning out article after article if you don't get going yourself!
  3. If you can't think of something straight away, let the community's articles inspire you!
  4. After SC there will be another great reading challenge - so if you aren't immediately showered with likes and comments during the SC, it's not because of your articles, but because many people are concentrating on their own SC marathon. So look forward to reading in August!
  5. And if you follow several worlds, it is advisable to process the notifications before the start of the summer camp. I'm excited to see what my inbox looks like after SC since I now follow 123 worlds.

Weekly assignments

Topics:
You can find my thoughts on the individual topics in a brief overview below.

  Pledge:
Read my introduction at the beginning of the article - quality over quantity.

  Categories & Tagging-System:
Since this is a novel project, storytelling with characters and introductions is at the forefront of my organizing systems. Then follow the “world categories” which are structured in a quasi-evolutionary manner. What had to come first for something else to follow

The tagging system is already an integral part of my articles for Elaqitan and will be expanded to include a corresponding tag during SC.

  Meta:
For many, the meta is rather intimidating and many prefer to ignore it. Yes, I struggled at the beginning too. In May, following Mochi's Iceberg inspiration, I finally created an Overview-Meta as well as mini-metas for each continent and listed my article ideas, which I now have a much better overview of.

  Responsible partner:
You will find me in my Chapter Seven Tomes as well as in the German and Summer Camp chats on Discord.

  Styling:
For the time being, I won't be changing any more of the styling and CSS in my two worlds, as I've adjusted a lot of little things here and there over the last few months and I'm mostly happy with them. However, each of my continents of Elaqitan has a different color CSS, which I'm finally going to copy into individual Google Docs so I don't have to open an old article every time to get it out there.

  Inspirations:
With the revision of my meta there is a lot of inspiration for images, music and article ideas for each continent. It remains to be seen whether these actually match the requests.

There are simple world maps for both worlds, which I won't work on for the time being because the prompts could refer to anything. However, there are a few smaller snippets of maps that I use if it fits a prompt.

Homepage, pillar articles & author profile:
They are relatively up to date and do not currently require any further adjustments.

Sponsoring

Winning doesn't always mean being first. Winning means you have become better than you were before.
— Bonnie Blair

This year is the first time I decided to sponsor a prompt. Unfortunately only one person can win, which is why every participant will receive a specially created unofficial badge for this purpose, which I will publish at the awards ceremony at the latest.

In addition, after the official awards ceremony, the 2nd and 3rd place winners can look forward to my participation in writing, drawing, creating AI-generated images or designing an article of their choice.

I relate to your struggles with Summer Camp. I still fun with it, but my process works better with something like WorldEmber. I hope the prompts work in your favor this year!

Viel Erfolg, Blue.

One of the reasons I go for copper is also because I can struggle with prompts and want the freedom to just choose those I really like. Thank you very much for that pretty badge, it's been added to my pledge document! I hope you have a lot of fun this year.

Yes - it's better not to force anything and enjoy the time. I'm glad that you are joining the Copper Party. Thank you for your lovely comment and good luck for your SC.

That's such a lovely badge! I want it... but am going for gold cuz I'm slightly crazy (I originally wanted diamond but.... i suspect life with do life things) I'm working on a badge for members of my discord and it's related world project: Nexus 423 Nexus 423   Also, I absolutely love the font you use for your comments ^^

Jun 6, 2024 16:14

Aww thank you, but there is no badge for a Golden Camp-Club (I believe so), so you could take your chance to make one. I wish you a luck, reaching your golden goal or something more. And if you want to use the font: it is a Google font called Charmonman.

Good luck with your goal!   Sponsoring sounds like a huge responsibility. Hope you find new interesting worlds thanks to it!

    Jun 26, 2024 16:09

Thank you very much, I'm looking forward to interesting and inspiring articles for my sponsorship, as it will be a template for which I have only written one article myself so far. But you're right, it will certainly not be easy to choose a winner. I hope that I can live up to the responsibility.
