Sanguine Fondue Item in Blood Well | World Anvil

Sanguine Fondue

It is best not to ask where we get the cheese from.

A delicacy unique to the denizens of the Sanguine Shanty, when prepared correctly this deep crimson coloured fondue is a silky smooth mixture of molten cheese, alcohol, and fresh blood straight from the Well. Literally any alcoholic drink can be used in its preparation, though wine and light beer is usually preferred. It is believed to have been invented by a Dwarven vampire as an excuse to consume more alcohol.   Sanguine fondue can be prepared in any pot, kettle or cauldron as long as a constant, gentle heat is applied to the mixture. Care must be taken that too much heat is not applied, otherwise the cheese will spoil or the blood will clot. Any ratio of blood and alcohol is acceptable, and is encouraged to be adjusted for personal taste. Unsurprisingly, Dwarven vampires prefer ratios of up to 10 percent blood to 90 percent alcohol. The colour of the mixture varies with the blood content, from a light pink at low concentrations, to a vibrant scarlet at middle concentrations, to a deep crimson at saturation.   Sanguine fondue can be kept as a stable liquid mixture indefinitely as long as constant heat is maintained, and small portions are often carried about in copper lined jars baked from Fire Clay that retain the heat of the kiln they fired in.
