The Forge Games
As told by Nal'Draken
So this is my experience with The Forge Games, a Draeklyr custom for the little guys coming to adulthood.
History
I don't know much of the history for the games, but from what I have heard for it was some random drunken Draeklyr did it with his child and then that child told several children and even taught his own until it became a massive custom that all Draeklyr. I was astonished from the beginning specifically, a drunken Draeklyr started it. I mean who would've thought of it? I know I could've never thought of it.
Execution
So when I helped with the Forge Games that I came to see, it was amazing. They have an Anvil for each of the newly arriving adults, where this is where they will be for a majority of the Games. They have different rounds based on what the judges will call for, the first round is a knife making round where materials for their knives will be scattered around them. And let me just say the materials that they had for that year with the knives was wacky. They had broken breastplates, forks, butterknives, spoons, propellers from swamp buggies, rusted swords and shields, and other mettalic objects I didn't even want to know based off of looks alone.
I asked if this was for a spiritual thing for them, and all I got was this:
The forge games are a way for the children to embrace the mostly blacksmith tendencies that us Draeklyr have, Round one is when they create their first knife that will be passed down from generation to generation. I got mine always on me.
Round two is suppose to signify the hunter/gatherer tendencies that the children will experience, most don't come back during this round which is sad, but it's honorable. You feel me man. It's honorable.
Round three is where the children will finally become men, where they will go head to head with swords that they crafted themselves. This really gets the boys going as it is a fun, but dangerous exercise, man. Hey you got any Khro for a smoke?
Participants
The participants are all the children that are turning adults, I don't know the age they do that, but I was shocked to see how inclusive it was. They have males, females, I believe twin-gendered, and all of the different regions of Zydra.
But will it Keal?
For your consideration, my submissions for the WorldAnvil Worldbuilding Awards 2024. (I've also included some of my favorites other worldbuilders.)
It will Keal!
