Session 8: Under the Overseer's plume Report

General Summary

While on the drive from the ruin of Old Dunlee, Seh-k'r opened the large case of rare books and investigated the contents. It appeared to be trove of pre-holocaust homesteading, survival and insurrection guidebooks with a scattering of older tomes pertaining to magical and alchemical arts. Those magical tomes seemed more to masqurade as some other kind of book, either biographies, raving manifestos or even collections of clothing patterns. Only after some study was their true nature revealed, and spaced throughout the text were appendixis and footnotes which contained arcane writings. In one book an appendix is chapter sized and goes into great, convoluted detail about the workings of magic. So far fetched and twisted are the word meanings, it leaves the unprepared reader baffled and confused. Seh-k'r pressed on and coming to an understanding thinks they have begun to build knowledge of Wizardry. At the end of the chapter are the instructions for a spell used to decode and make readable the arcane text of the ancient peoples.   Meanwhile Nemora summoned an animal companion and turned her attention to the strange armored box which defied their earlier attempts to break into. Summoning over Gamma, they prepared to try and smash the box, before a paniced Nemora convinved them to use a pry bar to gently open it. After a few moments of fustration, it appeared the hinge-pin was accessible. Removing it bypassed the complex lock and the lid hinged on the hasp instead. Revealed were several odd small black boxes with buttons and knobs, wires, and metal rods with magnets on the ends. Nemora could tell they were electronic devices of some sort. Seh-k'r put their books down and immediately saw they were radios, but the batteries were not working. Rummaging in the box there was discovered a charging base and the radios were quickly set up on the engineering console to begin recharging. The controls were quite complex and it would take someone with more experience to use them to their fullest potential. It was decided to wait for them to fully charge and have Kole get them set up later.   Meanwhile the sun had set and revealed in the sky ahead was a green object which glowed so greatly headlights were almost superfluous. Nearing the Slags, an almost lawless suburb of Dunlee, the green object seemed to hover nearly overhead. The wastes around the settlement seemed to be littered with motionless, abandoned vehicles and people just standing and staring at the sky. Slowing to talk to one of these individuals was nearly fruitless as they just continued to gape at the sky. After a few long moments, they turned their head, the neck creaking and popping at the impossible angle.   Just then the nearly noiseless horde of stumbling people reached the far side of the rover. One leaped onto the windscreen, clawing at the frame. A spooked Kole stomped the accelerator and while the oversize engine roared to full power, the turbo shrieking as it came to full boost. An equally surprised Seh-k'r lept into the cieling and Gamma reacted by punching a well armored cabinet. Not entirely prepared for the sudden acceleration, Seh-k'r lost their purchase and tumbled against the impassive Gamma, clinging to his clothing instead. Nemora calmly turned on the windscreen wipers which then battered the humanoid clinging there until their smashed and broken fingers lost their grip, and they fell under the speeding rover. Bashing sounds began to come from the roof of the cargo area. Kole, having gotten over his fright, mashes the brakes, throwing them off the roof to land in a crumpled heap in the sand. Then, driving over them and through the crowd flattening a few, off to Dunlee proper.   The motorpool gate, standing wide and the lights off, Kole drove straight in, stopping to instruct Nemora how to activate the gate controls. The gate was unresponsive to Nemora, who found themself looking up at the odd green object. For a moment they couldn't pull their eyes from it, with a shudder they fled back to the rover. Kole quickly drove down the thoroughfare and into the dark motorpool where the rover had been borrowed from.
