The Night Cloak Hunt

"The Notallkr is the ideal prey for an aspiring Grandmaster. To slay one, a hunter must use all of their skills and knowledge to slay the beast. If a hunter can successfully hunt this creature, they are worthy of becoming Grandmaster." - Bakkay Rulyen

A Test of Hunters

Those seeking to become the Grandmaster of the Tevan Tay must first complete the Night Cloak Hunt. Their task is to hunt the elusive Lesser Dragon known as the Notallkr, a creature skilled in stealth and evasion. Slaying this creature is perhaps the greatest test of skill for a member of the Tevan Tay and the best method to select the next Grandmaster.

The First Hunt

The tradition was established in 606 1E by the second Grandmaster of the Tevan Tay Bakkay Rulyen before her retirement from the position. Her goal was to find a worthy candidate to replace her and future Grandmasters to ensure the guild was in the right hands. As such, she concluded that all future Grandmasters must replicate Bakkay's greatest geat and slay the stealthy Night Cloak Dragon. Three hunters accepted the challenge and set out to slay the dragon. It took nearly two years, but in the winter of 608 1E, Tomen Yaring would return having slain the Notallkr, claimed its horn, and consumed its flesh.   After his successful hunt, Bakkay stepped down from the position of Grandmaster and handed it off to Tomen with the order that he continue the tradition for his next replacement. From that point onwards, all aspiring Grandmasters of the Tevan Tay must prove themselves by slaying the Notallkr and consuming its flesh.

Legacy of the Hunt

Since 608 1E, all Grandmasters of the Tevan Tay have partaken in this tradition and slew a Notallkr. Each has proudly displayed their captured horn and eaten the dragon's flesh, which they claim is one of the best things they have ever eaten. The tradition remains unchanged in the modern-day, though some wonder if the Notallkr population of Stelwen will adapt to the ritual.
