Mtani culture

Gentle like the prettiest flower, ruthless like the harshest storm. The mtani aren't concerned about the consequences of their actions. They, like nature itself, simply exist.
— From Min-aniara Laita's travel journal.
The mtani at almost a monocultural species, due to the low emigration late from their ancestral homeland. And while some immigrants to Ulalia have adopted their culture, mtani and ulalian are still very much synoyms.

Cultural values

The mtani have the utmost respect for nature, so defending nature is an essential value for them. However, they do so not as external guardians but as part of nature. And, just like nature, they act by instinct, trusting in hunches rather than rational thought.   They have a certain sense of community, but it's extremely limited to their pack —usually fewer than three or four families. And while they feel connected to the world and nature as a whole, they don't care about nations, not even their own. In fact, the Republic of Ulalia is just a tool they devised to make other countries wary of conquering their lands and, consequently, damaging the lush nature of the Canopy

Gender

Finally, another society with no concept of gender. Why are those so difficult to find?
— From Min-aniara Laita's travel journal.
Mtani don't have a concept for sex, since arborification is a completely different process. Because there is no such difference in body shape, mtani don't use a gender system either. This is often a source of confusion for other people, and it adds to their aura of mystery.   However, mtani who have lived in another country for a long time often find themselves identifying with one of the genders of said society.

Naming traditions

Mtani names are common words that they translate when speaking in another language. A mtani name has two parts: an element of nature, followed by the time of day when they first opened their eyes. The first name may change during their life, as they represent a natural element they are especially attuned to. These are some examples:
