First Moult

First moult (Lāu-ka in Avian. Literally Feather Spirit) is celebrated by most cultures on the continent when a child has completed moulting for the first time and is from now on theoretically able to fly.

Execution

From the first day a child is born the parents and/or caretakers collect all feathers the child looses and store them somewhere in the home. When the child starts moulting for the first time around the age of 3-5 the very first lost primary feather is dipped into molten copper. It is made into a necklace that is given to the child when the moult is complete. Most kids wear this necklace until they start puberty but some wear it for their whole life. Partners sometimes wear each other's necklaces. All the collected feathers are gathered together and are strewn over the child. Usually they are not cleaned up until three days after the celebration. Usually on the second day all the child's friends are invited.

Participants

It is mostly celebrated within the closests family but some want to celebrated with more distant family too and some even invite the neighbours and friends.
