Biofield

In the 22nd century, humanity had mastered cloning and gene editing technologies, replacing non renewable resources and materials with organic alternatives. For a time, the world prospered as cheap houses were constructed using keratin, wiring was replaced with electrically conductive nerves, and computers began to use neurons for their CPUs. Life expectancy was increased near indefinitely as scientists and doctors eradicated disease and the aging process. This was before the Growth.   The origin of the Growth is mostly unknown. It attached itself to organic technology, spreading throughout known infrastructure in a way that could only be called intelligent, until it consumed the planets organic resources. The fall of humanity was swift and brutal, with the few who were capable of fighting back either being consumed or torn apart by monstrosities, born from the flesh of the beast itself.   It has been millennia since the end. The oceans are nearly gone and dry, and Humanity clings to life in the barren deserts of Earth, surviving on the fringes of the Biofields. They dare not venture to far, as the fertile fruits of the flesh are as predatory as any animal, and horrors that used to be people roam amongst the keratin trees and arterial vines.
