Song of Caldera
by Canva
When Father Earth was young and Mother Sky was new
When the winds roamed free, a volcano once grew
Small, yes, at first, but with every passing year
It grew all the land that you still see here
One day when it had reached up so high
That it scraped the bottom of dear Mother Sky
A great BOOM! A flash! Lightning and thunder crash!
And Father Earth fell into darkness and ash
For one hundred years and more, Father Earth slept
And down through the ash and rock, Mother Sky wept
In the enormous crater where the volcano had been
A puddle formed and grew, and the sea filled in
On the crater’s peaks, glaciers and snow formed
And the face of Father Earth froze, then warmed
When at last the smoke cleared, and Mother Sky grew still
In the void of Mother Sky, the stars did fillby Canva
And I am glad to say, Uncle Sun and Auntie Moon
Showed their round faces, and none too soon
For the ash that had fallen from Mother Sky
Became the first life forms, and the wind wondered why
Until one night, a rock fell to Father Earth
And a baby lay, like Mother Sky had given birth
And the humankind, they took him in to raise
They gave him love and they gave him praiseby Canva
And when he had grown, he caught a falling star
But now, I fear, I have told too far
For some tales are not for mortals to hear
But believe me when I say that you need not fear
For the wind remembers the eldest days
When there was not but fire and haze
And I, Xefiev, the god of wind and song
Would tell of these tales before the night is longby Canva
For the wind whispers to me, and I, now, to you
But you, mortal child, should try to sleep, so, do
