Nightly/Bedding Circle, or the Circle of calling the Gods for protection.
Dusk had come and gone as Aramis took himself into the tent, ready for bed, his wife, Gloria, just as tired as he, knelt beside the bed, she looked at him with a smile. He really wished he could just go to bed, but the Gods required him to ask protection.
Dutifully he knelt beside his wife, bowed his head, and used his cupped hands to form a circle.
"By the Circle we call to thee oh Gods of us all, protect our lives and those of our loved ones, as we protect the world you have given us,". That was all that was needed, but now he and Gloria quietly remembered each of the Gods and tried to see how they had affected them that day.
Finally they said "All to thee our Circle, Protect us please,".
and then they crawled into the bunk and went to sleep, feeling the protection of their ancestral gods.
History
The Gods have told the people that the people of old would cup their hands in a circle and then bow to the East, placing the hands down and pressing their forehead to the hands as they called the names of all the Gods. Rocking back on their heels they would then sing or chant a psalm to the gods.
When the gods left the surface of the world the ritual became more personal and shortened.
Only the sequestered are expected to do the full version.
Execution
Abbreviated: kneel and face your bed, cup your hands and place the heels of your hands together and then the fingertips to form a circle, close your eyes, and say out loud "By the Circle we call to thee oh Gods of us all, protect our lives and those of our loved ones, as we protect the world you have given us,". Then meditate on each of the Gods and try to tie them to things that occurred to you this day.
Full Version: Kneel and Face the East, cup your hands as above, put your circle on your forehead and say the name of each god in turn, rocking forward and touching your hands on the floor with your forehead still on your hands, then returning to a vertical position, one bow for each name said.
When the bowing is finished you keep the hands against the forehead while calling out: "By the Circle we call to thee oh Gods of us all, protect our lives and those of our loved ones, as we protect the world you have given us,".
After this it is common to sit and quietly contemplate each god.
