Lyca Usar Ethnicity in Belthuran | World Anvil

Lyca Usar

The Lyca Usar are the stable lycanthropes of Ursand, like those of the Rhyderian Lycan Commune. They have chosen to live in isolated villages away from the general populace of Ursand as there is a great deal of fear about Skinwalkers and other spawn of the She-Wolf. While they still avoid the Deepwoods of Ursand they live closer to the land and are known to interact with the druids of Ursand with some of their numbers even being druids.

Common Etiquette rules

As the Lyca Usar are lycanthropes they often rely on scent as part of their society, covering your natural scent is seen in poor taste as if you are obscuring yourself. They don't oppose cleaning ones self but perfumes or the like are frowned upon.

Common Dress code

The Lyca Usar do not wear long sleeves, most say it is because they do not want someone to hide something up their sleeve, often that fear is a piece of silver. Beyond that they wear clothing that can be removed easily, often wearing large fur cloaks or coats, the reason for the ease of removal is fairly simple as turning into their lycanthrope form would destroy their clothing and it is hard for them to replace.

Art & Architecture

The Lyca Usar build their homes to have circular doors, they say it is because they used to live only in caves and many had rounded entrances. Once they started to build homes and villages they kept that to remind them of where they come from.

Common Taboos

It is taboo in a fight against a humanoid to use their bites, as that is how Lycanthropy is transmitted, creating a new lycanthrope is only done to willing people who are welcomed into the community and are often treated as children to the one that turns them.

Common Myths and Legends

The Ursandian population believes that the Lyca Usar was created when a Skinwalker was created by the She-Wolf but then wandered into the path of a druid who saw what they were and helped them break free of the curse aspects of the transformation. Many of the Lyca Usar believe their origins start with some of the Rhyderian Lycans that heard about the problems with feral lycanthropes in Ursand and came to try and help.
