The Central Plains
The Plains seem to be one of the most sought after pieces of land on the planet, with the Humans, Elves, and Orcs all attempting to lay claim over it at different points of time. It makes me wonder, why?
Geography
The Central Plains are a generally flat, grassland region with a temperate climate. Some patches of trees exist intermittently throughout the plains. Fresh water is generally found underground further inland, but towards the coast, there exists a river system that makes travel and farming incredibly easy and there are some lakes spattered throughout the northern regions of the plains.
Fauna & Flora
Mostly grasses grow naturally, but the soil is incredibly fertile because of the shallow water table, meaning many plants could grow well. There are small forests within the plains, mostly near lakes, but they measure at most one or two acres, and it is often wondered whether the trees were brought in days of old or not.
Most wild animals are rodents and other small mammals, especially ones that burrow. Sometimes, there are some larger animals that live here as well, mostly wolves and wild dogs who can be found to the east. The birds can often be found near the east or in the small forests. Some sea birds do exist closer to the coast, but they are not as common as on other parts of the coastline.
Natural Resources
Deep in the ground, in the northeast, there can be found mines full of iron, silver, and gold. Farther south, the fertile soil makes agriculture incredibly profitable. The burrowing rodents, if caught, are said to be delicious, but not enough to sustain even a small village. Any trees found are generally appreciated more for their aesthetics than their wood. Most resources to sustain a large civilization requires bringing in resources from outside regions.
History
No one knows who the original people of the Central Plains were, although the earliest known inhabitants were the humans of the old Yakul Empire. After that empire's collapse, the plains were given to the orcs of Osalla in the treaty afterwards. They lasted for hundreds of years before the elves pushed them out of the plains and into conflict with dragulin to the west. Then, for a long time the elves held control of the Central Plains as an extension of their own growing empire. However, while some elves did leave the forest to settle on the plains, most stayed within the bounds of the Eastern Forest.
While the elves controlled the plains, humans from far north began to filter down into region, becoming the foundation of the Centrum ethnicity, eventually founding the Silver Kingdom. Over time, the Centrum began to bristle under Elven rule and rose up to overthrow the elves, led by King Boden I. For the next few centuries, the newly independent Silver Kingdom developed on its own, with the ever independent Agrarans minding their own business.
In recent times, the plains have a new owner in the Golden Empire, a united human empire that began from a Centrum village near a gold mine that conquered the other human nations nearby.
