Plajut's Hex
Transmission & Vectors
The only way for humanoids to contract Plajut's Hex is to eat meat infected by it. They are most often found in sand worms, which contract the Hex when the parasite that causes it enter the worms' systems when they secret their gametes for recreation.
Causes
Plajut's Hex is caused by a parasitic worm known as Plajut's Child. Once the parasite is in the body, they burrow into the various muscles within the host, sucking off of the oxygen delivered to them by the blood stream,as well as nipping at the proteins that make up the muscles.
Symptoms
The symptoms of Plajut's Hex include fatigue, a slow heart rate, and shortness of breath. As the disease progresses, muscle atrophy begins to appear.
Treatment
In the past, the only way to survive the Hex is rest and consuming a mixture of alcohol and crushed flowers. While not a cure, it increased the chances of surviving the Hex. However, in recent years, Urzal the Craven worked with some shamans of Plajut in order to find an actual cure for the Hex, and they succeeded. Mixing together holy magic of Plajut with a serum made of ground lichen and blueberry juice creates a liquid that if a gallon is drank over the course of a week, the Plajut's Children all die and enter the bloodstream to be sweated out.
Prognosis
Most who contract the Hex end up dying as their muscles deteriorate to the point of a system shut down. However, there used to be some ways to increase the chance of success prior to the creation of a cure.
Hosts & Carriers
The most common carrier of the Hex are sand worms, which are not effect to the same degree by the parasites as humanoids, due to different physiologies.
Prevention
The only way to protect against it was to ensure that any meat eaten is thoroughly cooked to point of being well-done. Other than that, avoiding the consumption of any meat hunted in The Western Desert, especially sand worm.
Cultural Reception
Among the orcs, the most affected population by the Hex, it is viewed as one of the plagues that Plajut sprayed down on the world after coming back to life as the god of disease and poison. Thus, some view Urzal finding a cure for the Hex as a victorious act of revenge for Solgus and Jorgo, while others view it as a rejection of Lunagar's message of forgiveness.
