Còta Famhair Geal

This is an incredibly rare and sought after resource, especially in snowy climes; due to its exceptional properties and the dangers of collecting it also means that it commands an even more premium price. Hunting for Famhair Geal is an extremely dangerous past time and only the most seasoned and skillful hunters set off to target them. However, with risk comes reward, not only in terms of numeration but also as increased standing and respect within the community.

Cultural Significance

Culturally, the Còta Famhair Geal is very important to the Deigh Sgàile not only providing them with the means of survival (clothing to survive the harsh conditions of their home) and a valuable natural resource to trade, but also by the spiritual significance. Ceremonial items will usually have a twist of Famhair Geal hair dyed bright blue (another very rare resource whether attached to an elders staff; a shaman's headdress; or the wedding attire of betrothed couples. In terms of the former, Còta Famhair Geal will often be used to pay a dowry.   There is almost a veneration of the great beasts whose hides comprise the Còta Famhair Geal, tribal chieftans and elders take great care to count the numbers of pelts taken and other beasts roaming their territory to ensure that there is always a healthy population. They will also protect the tribal 'stocks' from outsiders, driving from the land and killing those too stubborn to take heed of the, not too subtle, warnings.
