Session 1. Sidney Pebbles
General Summary
Starting over the weekend of October 10-11, 1931.
Talking to some people from the WAWA, they heard about Sidney Pebbles. Sidney is a Woodson alum who works for Steinmetz Associates. However, the descriptions of the guy at Steinmetz do not match memories fo the guy at Woodson. Sidney Pebbles should be fairly tall, a bit stooped, with a pronounced widow’s peak - he was starting to go a bi bald in high school. The Pebbles at Steinmetz is not as tall, is blond, with a pencil mustache, and seems to be younger than Sidney should be. And is definitely not going bald. This led them to make inquiries, and they heard that he had stopped going to work.
They decided to go looking for him, he had been staying at the Bayport Hotel so they went there.
Monday, 10/12/31:
Lloyd charmed the night clerk, leapt over a bannister; he almost tripped but caught himself and did a backflip, which won him a friend forever. They went up to Sidney’s room - #36 - where he did not answer - but the maid happened to be Italian (Maria), and Wilfredo convinced her to let them in.
Inside they found very little - he left it clean, it had been cleaned, he left nothing, no luggage, nothing. They did not give up and found two clues: first - a book - Introduction to Accounting, taken from the Bayport City Library, a week or so before. Second - a note to meet someone at 5:30 at 33 Lloyd Street, York.
They went to 33 Lloyd street. This was in South Bayport, in the slums, and 33 proved to be a tenement building, only a block or so from the rail yards. They chatted with some idlers outside, without a lot of benefit, then went inside, except for Alexandria, who stayed with the car. They heard about someone named Phil on the second floor and went up. They knocked on the door. When it opened, Lloyd went upstairs to keep a watch, while the others went in. They claimed to be census takers, which worked until one fo the men remembered that the census took place in 1930. They were jumped by two more men who came in from outside. The fight that followed went poorly for them - the thugs clobbered the two of them in the room, who could not fight.
Outside, Leaping Lloyd tried to jump down into the fray, failed to connect with anyone, but turned it into a trick and convinced the thug in the hallway that he was there to scout out movie locations. This led to the thug telling him a story about someone who had been here the week before, and done some impressive leaping of his own - out the back window! Over to the next building!
This did not help the ones inside - but then Gretchen rolled her eyes back in her head and started chanting in Latin and convinced the thugs that she was casting a spell. They ran for it. They chased.
