The Arlvar, or "Ruling People," are a beautiful, long-lived, intelligent, and inherently magical race that make up the nobility of Nove Rezaan.

Origins

When the Crusade of Light ended in inevitable victory, Alverion granted each of his exarchs vast sections of land to rule in the new world of Bastion. To His right hand, Aeolith Zinwain, He gave the largest central region that is today Nove Rezaan, but even that was not enough reward for such a devout follower. To Aeolith and his cohorts, Alverion granted new life. He remade them. They were granted beauty, grace, longevity, and magic. From this gift, the Arlvar were born.

Culture

If you were to describe Arlvarian racial culture in a single word, it would be "arrogance." Some might be more polite than others about it, but Arlvar generally believe themselves to be the superior race. Not only that, each individual Arlvar likely believes themselves to be better than their fellow Arlvar as well. They may pay the proper respect to rank and position in public, but it is an open secret that even the lowest Arlvar believes they should be a king or queen. It is almost a guarantee that each Arlvar is working toward climbing the social and political ladder, often with a complete disregard for the consequences (so long as other people suffer them).   The only small exception to this behavior is dynasty. Arlvar place great value on lineage and having a prestigious family name. That is not to say they do not undermine or climb over family, but they tend to keep such things private so the dynastic name remains esteemed.
Names
Arlvar born into nobility (the vast majority) are given a first name, then their two middle names are their father's first name and mother's dynasty. They take their fathers dynasty name. For example the current King of Nove Rezaan is Merendaer Calithion Qinfaren Amakiir. His father's first name was Calithion, his mother's dynasty was Qinfaren, and his father's dynasty was Amakiir. The few Arlvar who are outside the nobility often disregard this naming structure, or at the very least do not introduce themselves as such.
Patriarchy
Arlvar society is patriarchal. Not to point of women being considered property of their fathers or husbands, but at the highest levels of society the situation is not far off from that extreme. Women may not hold titles, and given that there is no private land or business ownership in Nove Rezaan, this means women are barred from holding any property beyond personal belongings. Even among the ohtari, women receive no martial training. The primary function of women in arlvar society is to be pleasant to look at, and to be married away for political benefit. This is not to say that there are no arlvar men who value the women in their lives, but those men are rare enough that there is no chance of a woman advancing her station in Nove Rezaan.   Other than the passage of titles, none of the patriarchy is enshrined in law. The primary source for it is that essentially all of Arlvar society is modeled after the behaviors of the prime arlvar, Aeolith Zinwain. While renowned throughout the world for his charisma and leadership, and despite the fact that he worked closely with two female Exarchs, Aeolith was well known to be quite dismissive of women during his reign as king of Nove Rezaan. Over time, arlvar society has taken that stance further and further away from equality.

It should be noted that despite women's lesser position in arlvar society, violence towards them is not permitted. Unlike the laws regarding vices, which are ubiquitously ignored, the laws protecting women from physical harm are enforced strictly. Cases are handled on an individual basis, but punishments have been as severe as to have every man from a dynasty banished from Nove Rezaan and all titles passed to other nobles.
Pegasi
After Alverion had granted each of his Exarchs a kingdom, and remade four of them into their new forms, he had one more gift to bestow upon his most favored and devout follower. Aeolith Zinwain was given a herd of creatures never seen in the . Whether The Divine One created them as he did the new races, or called them forth from his former home in the heavens is unknown. Aeolith chose his favorite pegasus from the herd and gifted the others to his fellow Arlvar.   The original herd of Pegasi was wildly diverse in their coloring. Even some of their anatomy varied, predominantly when it came to their manes and tails. Since then Arvlar society has made the breeding of Pegasi a cornerstone of their culture. While seeming utterly ridiculous to the other races, particularly the Dwarves and Goliaths, the stud fees of Pegasi have played a major role in Arlvarian politics. Titles for entire counties have changed hands over such things.

Appearance

Arlvar have fair skin and elongated, pointed ears. Their eyes can be silver, gold, purple, or the pale blue of moonlight.
Build
Arlvar are taller than humans. It is uncommon for an adult Arlvar to be shorter than 6 feet, and they can be as tall as 7 feet. There is no difference in average height between males and females. They typically have slender builds, even among the strongest and well muscled of the race. It is extremely rare to find an overweight Arlvar, though this is more a function of their obsession with appearing "better than," rather than a physiological inability to gain weight.
Hair
Arlvar naturally have only blond hair, however it is uncommon to see a blond Arlvar. A blond Arlvar has either rejected (or been ejected from) Arlvar society, or is so high up the social ladder they feel they can have a more natural appearance as a show of being above the games of their lessers. The most common color for Arlvarian hair is any and all. The same is true for hair styles, which can be quite extravagant. Even among the ohtari, who have more martial or laborious lifestyles that make delicate stylings a problem, you will not find any simple styles. They will at least have braids, which often incorporate ribbons, gems, and other accessories to go with the often changing dyed colors.   Age
