The Great Light

The Great Light is located at the very center of Bastille. It provides light and warmth within the naturally dark demiplane. Not much is known about the Great Light except by the most learned of the The Enlightened. Study of the Great Light is only permitted by approval of the The Radiant Seat and even then only under the direct supervision of the Illuminated Ones.

A Mystery of Nature

As far as the laymen of Bastille are concerned, the Great Light has always been and always will be. It is as natural as the rains provided by Istishia's Dance or the misty wall that surrounds all of Bastille. For most, the Great Light is of no concern, but for a select few, it stands as the greatest mystery remaining within Bastille. The Affirmed who wish to satisfy their curiosity must surmount the nearly impossible task of becoming one of the The Enlightened before they can even dream of being allowed to begin research. Because of this, the Great Light remains in great part, an unknowable natural phenomena.

In Light And Shadow

The Great Light is known as the moral compass of Bastille. All good things come from the gentle rays of light emitted by the Great Light. Plants grow, Istishia's Dance continues unabated all thanks to the infallible sovereignty of the Light. To reside in shadow is unbearable and thus is reserved as punishment for those unfaithful to the Light. It is from the Great Light that the The Radiant Seat derives its power and authority to govern and by what standard Illuminated Ones strive to improve themselves.
The Great Light is not a god, but is a symbol of all the good that resides within Bastille and the hearts of her citizens. When a man is altruistic, he is said to be a man filled with the Light. When a woman give her bread to the less fortunate, she is sharing the bounty of the Light. Conversely, when a boy is greedy and does does not share with his sister, he is said to be tempting the shadow. If the boy is not set on the straight and narrow, he may become an Agent of Shadow and find himself eking out a meager existence in the dangerous twilight of the Shattergleam Forest.
