The Great Ingress

At the beginning of the Ascension wars it was unclear whether or not Bastille would be necessary. The Order was confident that between themselves and the Lord's Alliance they would be able to quell the forces of evil rising in the south. Unfortunately, the Dark Lord Grimm proved much more dangerous than The Order was prepared to admit.

Luphilia The Vigilant

Battle after battle was ceded to the undead forces marching steadily northward along the Sword Coast. Luphilia Othoram knowing that the enemy would soon be upon them evacuated the hundreds of children being fostered within The Orders campus to Bastille. The Grand Wizards of The Order did not approve of her decision and in their arrogance tried to stop Luphilia and her followers. Many spell casters and soldiers died in the forty hour battle that followed. In the end, Luphilia was able to evacuate the children and a handful of other refugees into Bastille.

The Portal Collapses

It was not long after the Forty Hour Battle that the portal leading to Bastille closed, never to be seen again. Bastille stood in darkness. In this dark state, Luphilia used her considerable power to summon the Great Light from the depth of the Howling Abyss in order to light Bastille and provide warmth. Through her selfless actions, Bastille became home to hundreds of innocents and a sanctuary from The Order and the armies of the Dark Lord Grimm.
