An Anniversary to Mourn

Agitha, Taggart’s wife, was tough as nails. She worked tirelessly with nary a complaint. The work was hard, but that never slowed her. A woman of means, Agitha was not prone to indulging in frivolities. Despite this, Agitha felt that her 10th anniversary warranted some indulgences. Her anniversary falls in the middle of Eleasis during the heavy rains. In spite of the weather, Agitha decided to surprise her husband by putting on her best dress and styling her hair in loose braids, the way she did the day they married. Taggart was pleasantly surprised. Looking longingly into each other's eyes they shared a kissed and headed off to do their daily work. It was long decided that the workload always be done first and that the celebrating and reminiscing would be saved for after.   Fate would so have it that they would have little time for celebration. Agitha was not familiar with the hazards of working near the millstone with her hair down. So long had she worn it pinned close to her head that she did not consider the hazards of letting her hair dangle so close to the powerful stones used to grind the wheat into flour. When her braids became tangled in the heavy machinery, she had but a fraction of a second before her body was pulled in. Taggart saw his wife crushed between the stone of the mill and tried to saver her only to have his right hand and leg crushed as well. Kim found them hours later and called for help. Taggart has managed to overcome his grief but Kim has never forgotten the day her mother was taken from her.
