Baralion is a world with continents both newly discovered and bathed in history. Some places still remain shrouded and ready to be explored. Dechrau, Ursprung, Ord an Fhearainn, Iterum Nata, Sannhet, Althland, and Parylain are the known and globally recognized countries and kingdoms of Baralion. The continent of Clytiog houses Dechrau, Ord an Fhearainn, and Althland; Avkom is home to Sannhet and Ursprung. Iterum Nata and Parylain are fairly new nations, both on their own land masses.   Above, three moons glide across the night sky. Athro, or "Teacher" in Elvish, the largest of the three has a pale blue hue and causes the normal tide patterns. Skaperen, or "Creator" in Draconic, believed to be where the drakonmen originated from. Lastly, Dux, the smallest yet brightest was claimed by men to be the beacon that directed them to arrive on Baralion.   The first peoples to appear on Baralion were the Elves and the pre-Skala Krig drakonmen. The Elves inhabited much of Clytiog and formed a strong community-based society. The drakonmen of Avkom, according to them, descended from the heavens to claim their place in the west. They bore on their scales an assortment of color that would make the world's greatest artists cry in envy. The drakonmen lived in harmony until a forgotten event plunged them into a bitter civil war, the Skala Krig. This millennium-long war would leave their nation shattered, creating a feudal and clan-centered array of city states based on their breath energy. The rest of the drakonmen would slowly change and diverge into the rest of the reptilian races that we see today; the Dragonborn, Lizardfolk, Tortles, and Kobolds.   As the Skala Krig ended, lesser races of Avkom rose to the challenge to prove themselves as worthy denizens of the continent. Orcs, Goblinoids, and other monstrous creatures formed an alliance, known as the country of Ursprung. A nation forged by war, they idolize strength, honor, and selflessness.   Eventually, Dwarves and Gnomes came from the mountains of eastern Clytiog claiming to have been created by Beinn, their god, the Peak Father. These new folk found peace with the Elves and held that amnesty for millennia. Humans were a gift of magic, a present to Baralion from a far distant plane of existence to be pioneers and share their knowledge with whoever they encountered. After some introductions and negotiations, they were given a part of Clytiog, which they named Althland. The humans brought with them not just magical secrets, but ideals of individuality and freedom.   It wasn't but a few hundred years after the arrival of men that catastrophe gripped the world. Demons and devils, denizens of lower planes, invaded Baralion. They left in their wake a path of destruction and desecration that scarred the earth and tainted the seas. This came to be known as "The Portal War." Many lives were lost in this brutal decimation. The evil creatures sired new amalgamations of fiend and Baralians, named Tieflings. This race of half-fiends would play a major role in the ending of the Portal War. However, many people of Baralion still see evil in the Tieflings and dehumanize them. This led to the formation of Iterum Nata, a haven for Tieflings, separated from the rest of the world.   During the Portal War, demons and devils appeared all over Baralion. In unexplored regions, they remained; preying on the natives, infighting, and reproducing. Iterum Nata was the first of these infested regions to be cleared. Parylain was the second. After a long and bloody campaign, many of the forces that occupied Parylain decided to colonize it and isolate themselves from the rest of the world. They viewed this new land as theirs and theirs alone, and never sent any messengers to spread the news. The rest of the world fears Parylain, believing that one of their largest coalition armies could not defeat the wretched creatures there.
