Ballad of a Bronze Age

  The Empire of Rakan Ki was once expansive and powerful. Law and order prevailed and most knew a peaceful enough life regardless of social standing. No one knows how long ago, but the Empire fell apart. The details are scarce but can be broken down to the failure of the Emperor’s descendants in following the Law of Succession and discordance among local rulers as they began to lose a sense of belonging to a greater whole.   The Empire wielded great and terrible magics. It is said that they could share knowledge all across the world and beyond, could heal the sick, and travel beneath the seas. Those who brave the ruins of the past can find some of their strange devices, but only a gifted few can harness their power.   Four nations formed after the dust cleared from several decades of conflict. Now those nations of varying degrees of partnership and strife. There currently no open wars, but the threat lingers in the shadows.   The Sudor Dynasty is thought of as the spiritual successor of the Old Empire of Rakan Ki. They follow many of the old traditions and are ruled by those claim to share the emperor’s bloodline. In the last decade a group of insurgents has become more powerful within Sudor and only twenty days ago attempted a coup. Many soldiers in the army were joined by some citizens and a few among the royal court in this uprising.
