The Vessel of Kyram

The Vessel of Kyram is an object of much debate in the modern era, owing to its historical place among the stories of the early Ruination Period and its religious significance to the faith of the god Baithasz and its derivative sects. What is generally accepted is that the vessel was of simple design and great capacity, with numerous legends stating that a thin man could bath in the vessel. Depictions of the vessel's shape vary, with most common depictions varying between an amphora and a krater form, but all depictions show the vessel to have a tan earthenware texture with a copper lining on the inside. Whether the vessel is still extent in its original form or if pieces of the artifact remain with any of its original potency is unknown.   The Vessel of Kyram is the object of the prince of O-ishiran's quest. In legend, the empire of O-ishiran had lost the interest of the god's due to the callousness and impropriety of their ruler, resulting in drought and famine. In response the emperor's concubine, seeking salvation, brought her son to a wise woman known for her prophecies. The wise woman set the prince on his path, promising him salvation either for his name or for his people. Braving the perilous journey beneath the Godsperch Mountains, the prince returns bloody and broken with the Vessel of Kyram, an artifact capable of producing an endless supply of potable water. Following the prince's death and with the emperor deceased prior to his return, the vessel was placed upon his throne at the high-ziggurat, an act that both ended the O-ishiran dynasty and ensured the survival of the former empire's agriculture.  Through this sacrifice, the god Baithasz ascended and took on the appellation "Water-bearer."  The Vessel of Kyram was said to remain in its place for 36 years but its ultimate fate is unknown to modern scholars.
