The People of Khuul

Bordered by the sea on the West and the Uarii Desert on the East, lies the realm of Khuul with its own distinct culture. Its people are defined by their historical hardships and their legendary heroes, their nostalgia and their effort towards a future as mighty as their past used to be.

Culture

Shared customary codes and values

Growth through endurance: A nation whose history is spotted with hardship, famine, drought, war and plague, has learned to persevere and hope for a better day. Khuuli are known in Badoen for their endurance and inner strength, seeing in the struggle not a divine punishment, but an opportunity for growing stronger.   Equality: In Khuul, one's ethnicity, gender or physical build holds little difference. They are set to respect everyone according to their individual deeds rather than their background or features. In return, the Khuuli expect other cultures to treat theirs as equal. Noblility is easier to get into and fall out of in Khuul than in Syron, though there are class differences where these core values cannot reach, and noone shall tell a ruler whom to choose as their inner circle.   Dignity: The Khuuli hold their basic dignity dear. Even in the hardest times, they think of themselves of creatures of the gods who deserve humane treatment, deserve to be authentic and proud. In return, they teach their children to respect other people's dignity as well, be it someone from their own nation or a person from faraway lands.   Knowledge of the past: These people hold the belief that understanding the past will help understanding the present and building the future. Young Khuuli are thought their history not only by their schools, books and institutions, but by their parents, grandparents and friends. Monuments, historical sites and statues of famous heroes of old ages are a basic characteristic of any Khuuli city scape.

Average technological level

They live in a feudal society, though they have some more modern ideas, and their structures are less rigid than those of Syron. Khuul is most known for their expertise in medical knowledge.

Art & Architecture

Khuuli architecture commonly features circular elements, be it the base of buildings or rounded corners. Their buildings are often made of red or sand-coloured stone, adorned with an occasional relief or inlay of a different coloured mineral.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Roera's Day is commonly celebrated in Khuul. Unlike any other festivity in Badoen, this one revolves around siblings. Remembering Roera's sacrifice, the people of Khuul often wear a veil in front of their face, as the heroine did in the myth, and some tend to take a pilgrimage under the walls of the capital, where the event happened. Who are less inclined to do the previous acts, are still honoring the day by visiting their siblings, giving gifts and showing them the love and respect they deserve. Many Khuuli have jewellery, knick-knacks or other possessions they treasure because they were once Roera's Day gifts from a brother or sister.

Historical figures

Roera was one of the first known rulers of Khuul whose deeds have been covered by the myth weaved around her. Though many versions exist, all speak of the twins who ruled togerther, and of the sacrifice of Roera to save Khuul.   Casseim I was ruling together with his sister, and alone after her sacrifice. He is commonly accepted as a level-headed, just ruler, who is also believed to be the first Khuuli to have harvested the power of the burning sun, or - with more common words - use magic.   Tyzalin IV was the ruler of Khuul during the Era of the Bent Will. He is one of the darkest figures of Khuuli history, having established his reign through controlling people's minds with the aid of the enchanters he had control over. He was overthrown by the rebellion of the enchanters, but had a lasting effect on the nation's development.
