Initiation into the Isr Ybröak
Long training preceded the moment before one can serve Obatna'ra, and the end of this effort manifests itself in the initiation ceremony. Though the exact form of the ritual depends on the role of the individual in the assembly, it is for all a moment to remember.
Components and tools
During the ritual, the initiated are given the tools of their future profession. The Protectors receive their shield and their weapon, while gardeners gain their own various tools: the ornamented watering can, the incense, the rake and the scythe.
At the end of the ritual, the participants consume a part of the sacred tree, eating food that was made from the rare and precious fruit.
The Protectors are given a thick stew made from the meat of a bird that lived between the branches and the fruit of the tree. The hearty, slightly sweet, sligtly salty meal is said to give the protectors strength to fend off stranger, insight to see through the obvious and exercise wisdom and the tirelessness.
The Gardeners are gifted a twisted, knotted pastry shaped to the semblance of the sacred tree, the soft outer layer filled with curd and the fruit itself. Its taste is said to be sweet, almost cloying, juxtaposed by intensive spices. It symbolises care, kindness, reliability, and a warmth that protects the Gardeners and their sacred tree even in the coldest winter.
Participants
The centre of the initiation is the Chief of Rites of the order. They are responsible for the ceremony, the phrases said and the gestures used. Besides them, the Keeper is present during the ceremony, although more as an observer than an actual participants. The older members of the order, both Defenders and Gardeners are responsible for preparing the youth for their initiation, and proud parents and family cannot be kept from attending the ceremonies.
Observance
The ritual is organised every year when the sacred tree first blossoms in the spring. The very first flower is the sign to call the ceremony.
